“I have passed Fives multiple times, been meaning to stop in and finally did on last night w| a friend who was visiting.
We stopped by on a Tuesday, that is of course a pretty slow day in the city so it was pretty dead. We sat on the cocktail bar side and we were greeted by a super nice bartender— I can’t remember her name, but she had loads of energy!! We ordered a few oysters and they were hands downs some of the best oysters I’ve tasted. My favorites were the Mon Louis, such a great, clean taste. My drinks were extremely good. I could have sat there all night stuffing my face a drinking.
I wasn’t aware that Fives is owned by the same people who own The Columns, makes sense because food and drinks are always perfection there as well.
Fives is located in Jackson Square, prime location for tourists as it is centrally located in the Quarter. The space is limited, If you are expecting a full blown out restaurant, this isn’t the location. Fives is truly a cocktail/oyster bar. I believe I saw a total of four tables in each corner w| four chairs to each table.
This will certainly become a new spot for me to hang.”

“Bob Boudreau and I were in NOLA for 9 nights. Three of the nights we had reservations at other places with family. Our 1st night we looked up and found Jewel of the South. We loved it so much. we asked our nephew, his medical school advisor and his wife to join us. All three lived in NOLA and had never been here. All 5 of us would definitely go back in a heart beat. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Great staff. GREAT ALL AROUND! FIVE STARS for Jewel of the South.”

We never waited for anything. The Hot Crab Claws and Foie Gras Torte for appetizers were divine. I ordered the Duck Cassoulet and my husband had the visiting fish, Sea Bass over Yakamein. While the fish was excellent, the Duck ruled the table. Thanks to the Servers and Kitchen for a wonderful meal. We'll be back.”

A more simple menu that has just enough options and you can’t go wrong with any dish (although I recommend the red beans and rice, stewed or fried chicken and the praline bread pudding). “It’s dark, it’s cool, and they’ll play 60’s/70’s rock gems as the house music. The food is pretty good too. This is my favorite spot I’ve found after several years living in The Quarter. The vibe is perfect. Its the darkness and the music that really makes me not want to leave. It’s rock’n’roll without being a dive. Oh yeah, did I say the food is pretty good too?”
“Booked BABs on a whim as part of a quick getaway to NOLA. Was not disappointed! Creative mocktail and cocktail menu. Wonderful beer and wine list. Appetizers were heavenly and exquisite. Entrees were fresh and delicious, while being new takes on American cuisine. Staff was eager to please while not being snide or fake. Opinions were honest and questions were thoroughly answered. We're very guarded of our New Orleans meals when we visit. I won't hesitate to book Bywater American Bistro on our next trip!”

“We found this bar by chance while seeking shelter from the rain. It has a quirky theme centered around toilets, which adds a fun touch. Keep in mind, they only accept cash. The drinks here are big and pack a punch, starting at around $6 for basic options. Expect to mingle with a local crowd.”

“February 19th, 2020. Husband's 50th. Wanted a Mardi Gras birthday. He went to 'Bead & Boobs' on Bourbon whilst my short self wandered in this bar mid afternoon. I found a bar stool, kicked back and let Houla introduce me to a lovely spiced rum which became my companion the rest of the evening. The bar itself was clean, bathrooms were kept up and had a slappin playlist pumping. I watched drunken drama come in and out: a young couple saddled up and in mid drink the boyfriend realized he was surrounded by gays so he bolted, a gentleman asked me to babysit his darling Yorkie while he drained his snake, but the best was watching Houla superhero himself over the bar to rescue a very intoxicated woman from a total creep. That was legend! Enjoyed my 7 hour stay. Everyone needs to be here!!”
“Went upstairs and had an amazing time! El was a phenomenal bartender, he made great drinks and took song requests all night. He turned our whole night around.
When we left we did notice that it was pretty dead downstairs and the vibes were a bit off. Upstairs seems like the better place to be on a Friday night, and you can step out on the balcony.”
“Been craving crawfish late into the night and this was the only bar near me where I knew I could get crawfish since they were pretty much open 24/7 and I can’t say I regret coming here. The bartender was really nice and funny to talk to and they pretty much serve crawfish out of an open container which was interesting cause it was the first for me. They also charge our tray by the pound I think and from what I saw it’s priced pretty reasonably. All in all I really enjoyed the crawfish because it was very delicious and spicy and so were the other helpings but the bathroom was really gross though which was why I took off a star… but it’s a dive bar so grossness is inevitable.”

“Yall saved us during the NFL Superbowl Experience at the convention center. Only a 5 min walk, didnt need an hour wait (like the main Cochon). Collard greens, fresh sharp & sweet, had bacon like they should.10$ Batture blond ale& whisky special hit just right after a long day. Fried chicken was fat & juicy with crunchy skin alive with pepper. The muffaletta was tangy with olive salad and butchershop quality cold cuts and cheese, second best in town next to Central Grocery!”

Donavin makes a wonderful drink called “Thank You for Being a Friend” with Louisiana run, almond, passionfruit, and smoky amaro – must try! I was in town for the Home + Garden Show, and Barrel Proof was the perfect unwind!”
“I love the Braised Beef and get that everytime we go to YOCI. However, this time, the meat was tough and dry, with a lot of gravy poured over it. I actually had to cut it with a knife! I did tell our waiter, and showed him the large chunk of meat. He immediately asked if I wanted something else. Yes. The Fish was perfect!”

“We were blown away by our experience here. First of all it felt very upscale for the price--nice flatware, plating, and decorations! They have a fully vegan menu if you flip to the back which is several pages long. I'm only sad we couldn't try more so I will definitely be back. We decided to get the tofu satay appetizer which was perfectly crispy on the outside and very soft in the middle with a delicious dipping sauce. For mains, I ordered the pumpkin curry with 5-spice tofu. This tofu was much firmer/different texture and seasoned differently than the satay which I really appreciated that they have multiple preparations! It was so tasty and the curry was incredibly flavorful. My partner had the jackfruit curry and it was their first time having jackfruit. They really liked it, and I did, too! Everything was so beautifully prepared and yummy. We also enjoyed the blooming tea which was so pretty to watch open up in front of us at the table. I can't forget to mention that they always have vegan desserts!! They had many options this time including a vegan chai cheesecake (I wanted to try the pistachio one but someone before us took the last slice--darn!) which was heavenly. Even the water is flavored with a little pandan which was such a nice touch. It's not a huge place so I think a reservation is definitely preferred. Besides that I have no notes. Can't wait to return and try the rest of the vegan menu!”
Fine Dining
“Wild South is the best place to enjoy a cozy, delicious meal focused on Southern cuisine.
We went on a Wednesday night the week before Christmas, so it was slower than normal, which allowed us to sit at the chef's table and get unfettered attention from the staff and chefs. We ordered the 5 course prefix menu, and everything came perfectly timed, and perfectly portioned, to the point where we left satisfied but not overly full. I paired this with their Sherry flight, which allowed me to experience a wide range of styles they have to offer.
The first course was an escabeche-esque snapper, eaten in a rice cracker. The second course was an ode to New England style chowder. Both items were not listed on the menu at the time.
We were interrupted by an intermezzo of uni and trout roe topped chicken schnitzel bites, followed by the vegetable course of broccolini, carrots and peppers, topped with a pumpkin XO sauce, and goat creme fraiche.
The main course was a brined and one-week dry-aged pork chop, with radicchio and sweet potatoes.
Pre-dessert was a refreshing scoop of strawberry sorbet, and dessert was a nod to chocolate mint ice cream, but with merengue and toasted sesame, along with Creole cream cheese custard with strawberries and poached carrots.
Overall we had an amazing time, enjoying our camaraderie with the chefs and staff, and would highly recommend going back and enjoying a meal with friends. We will definitely be back when we return to New Orleans.”

We met with some friends for the Omakase menu and it was well worth the cost. With this, you get 12 or 15 different sashimi options. Each were so delectable and tasted Ike the best quality. They presented about 3 of the 12 at a time so you were not overloaded with a big platter. Highly recommend if you like the raw type. Our server was fantastic and knew every single item that was placed on the table. Cocktails were so good as well and I recommend their off menu rum drink. Decor inside is cozy and modern but very inviting. Don’t sleep on the apps as well and you MUST get the Brussels! We will be back very soon!
P.S. catch happy hour for specials on Brussels and you better get the crispy rice trio!”

“My son and I had the absolute pleasure of eating supper at the Mosquito supper Club last night. We drove from Pensacola Florida and it was so absolutely divine. I am originally from Mississippi and my entire life I have eaten gulf coast seafood. Best gumbo, ceviche was amazing, crabs claws yum. Tomato and cucumber salad with croutons. I cannot remember the names of everything. Potato salad with so good with a dash of hot sausage and in the gumbo I have never heard of doing it this way. We chose communal seating and enjoyed talking to everyone at our table. The ambiance of the mismatched vintage silver ware. The beautifully aged house with its milk glass lighting and copper ceiling medallions and aged plaster walls. It was such beautiful experience. The buttermilk ice cream with fig sorbet. Yum.”

You’ll thank us, I promise. 🤤 FIVE STAR REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The meal started out with a “gift from the chef.” A savory leek custard, topped with pumpkin mousse and a sprinkle of sweet & salty crunch, presented in a perfectly carved eggshell. We were given spoon bread as well, which was the lightest, airiest and creamiest corn muffin ever to cross my lips. The sommelier told us that the secret ingredient was sour cream. I guess the secret is out now! 😉 Our sommelier suggested Pinot Noir. Monty chose Belle Glos Las Alturas. Let’s just say that we started shopping for it online immediately after the first taste. It has a fuller body than a typical Pinot Noir, so smooth and juicy. Such a perfect pairing. 🤌🏼 Monty had the pecan-smoked venison tartare with celery root and mountain rose apple. The flavors and textures were out of this world! We combined a few bites of the tartare with a bit of spoon bread. Omg, I’ll say it again: Out. Of. This. World. 💥 I ordered the gnocchi "black and blue" with black truffles, jumbo lump crab and parmesan. Tender, yet slightly firm, with a delicate, pillowy texture, but the truffle took it to a whole ‘nuther level! They gnocchi’d it out of the park with this one. For dinner we shared duck three ways with Bayou Cora grits, foie gras, confit, chestnut mushrooms and cherry bounce. Y’all, I’ve had foie gras, but never before like this. An intensely flavorful silky texture that literally bursts on your tongue. It was absolutely divine. Dessert was hummingbird cake with creole cheesecake, bruleed banana and pineapple ice cream. I just don’t know what to say except the pastry chef knows exactly what she is doing!! This was definitely meal to remember with the love of my life, my favorite dining companion, and my partner in culinary escapades. I love our journey of flavorful adventures, seasoned with spice and a love that mirrors the diversity of a well-crafted menu. Here’s to more delicious chapters in our love story, baby, where every bite is a beautiful reminder of the incredible life we share! Cheers!! 🥂🥂”
“The restaurant itself is designed beautifully. The tasting menu is well thought out, and it feels very classically French but with local ingredients. The rabbit was the standout but everything was delicious. Service was very friendly and attentive just a couple missteps along the way. There’s only one dining room and seating time but it still feels intimate. They invite you to come before dinner for a welcome cocktail and to explore the house. It was a nice night so we could enjoy the patio. Overall it just feels like a special dining experience! They do auto include gratuity which isn’t uncommon now, however I did think 25% was a bit higher than the standard 20% we normally see. We were dying to try this place and weren’t disappointed. We would come back for a special occasion.”

“Our first time dining there and they didn’t disappoint! The service was perfect from the moment we walked in. The waiter was at the table to greet us immediately and promptly took our drink order. They started us off with a complimentary meatball served with a basket of garlic bread and they even put a candle in my mother’s as we were celebrating her 87th birthday. We ordered several appetizers including the crab cakes which were the best I’ve ever had. The beef carpaccio was so good we ordered it a second time and the entrees were equally as delicious. After the meal they brought out a red velvet brownie with a candle in it for my mother and the other tables in our seating area joined us in singing happy birthday to her. She was more than thrilled! We ordered a few desserts to share and the tiramisu was fabulous, in fact it was so good we ordered a second! Needless to say this was a spectacular dining experience.”

Came here on our last night after dinner and got the espresso with ice cream and a shake along with a cinnamon roll to share with my honey. The shake was a perfect consistency. Then came here again the day we were leaving out as they have Koloches. Haven’t seen those since we lived in Texas. It was pretty good but that Vietnamese coffee 🤤🤤🤤 it was soo good. “Restaurant was about a mile from our hotel on St Charles. We should have made a reservation for a Saturday night (even though we ate on the later side). We ended up having to do first come first serve at the bar which was awkward as there wasn't really any place to sit and wait, especially as we had to box out others for our turn at the bar seats. However, once we were settled, the service was fairly quick and the food was good. The pasta especially was done well with just the right amount of heat on the rigatoni for me. I think they must make the pasta as it was also very fresh. I did find the lack of bread odd though. We split dessert, which was something we hadn't tried before, but it was good as well.”

We went on a Wednesday night the week before Christmas, so it was slower than normal, which allowed us to sit at the chef's table and get unfettered attention from the staff and chefs. We ordered the 5 course prefix menu, and everything came perfectly timed, and perfectly portioned, to the point where we left satisfied but not overly full. I paired this with their Sherry flight, which allowed me to experience a wide range of styles they have to offer.
The first course was an escabeche-esque snapper, eaten in a rice cracker. The second course was an ode to New England style chowder. Both items were not listed on the menu at the time.
We were interrupted by an intermezzo of uni and trout roe topped chicken schnitzel bites, followed by the vegetable course of broccolini, carrots and peppers, topped with a pumpkin XO sauce, and goat creme fraiche.
The main course was a brined and one-week dry-aged pork chop, with radicchio and sweet potatoes.
Pre-dessert was a refreshing scoop of strawberry sorbet, and dessert was a nod to chocolate mint ice cream, but with merengue and toasted sesame, along with Creole cream cheese custard with strawberries and poached carrots.
Overall we had an amazing time, enjoying our camaraderie with the chefs and staff, and would highly recommend going back and enjoying a meal with friends. We will definitely be back when we return to New Orleans.”

We were given spoon bread as well, which was the lightest, airiest and creamiest corn muffin ever to cross my lips. The sommelier told us that the secret ingredient was sour cream. I guess the secret is out now! 😉 Our sommelier suggested Pinot Noir. Monty chose Belle Glos Las Alturas. Let’s just say that we started shopping for it online immediately after the first taste. It has a fuller body than a typical Pinot Noir, so smooth and juicy. Such a perfect pairing. 🤌🏼 Monty had the pecan-smoked venison tartare with celery root and mountain rose apple. The flavors and textures were out of this world! We combined a few bites of the tartare with a bit of spoon bread. Omg, I’ll say it again: Out. Of. This. World. 💥 I ordered the gnocchi "black and blue" with black truffles, jumbo lump crab and parmesan. Tender, yet slightly firm, with a delicate, pillowy texture, but the truffle took it to a whole ‘nuther level! They gnocchi’d it out of the park with this one. For dinner we shared duck three ways with Bayou Cora grits, foie gras, confit, chestnut mushrooms and cherry bounce. Y’all, I’ve had foie gras, but never before like this. An intensely flavorful silky texture that literally bursts on your tongue. It was absolutely divine. Dessert was hummingbird cake with creole cheesecake, bruleed banana and pineapple ice cream. I just don’t know what to say except the pastry chef knows exactly what she is doing!! This was definitely meal to remember with the love of my life, my favorite dining companion, and my partner in culinary escapades. I love our journey of flavorful adventures, seasoned with spice and a love that mirrors the diversity of a well-crafted menu. “This is a really good locally owned Thai restaurant just a few blocks outside the French Quarter. I got the Crab Rangoon and the gyoza as appetizers, and they were amazing! For dessert, I loved the Umi cheesecake so much I got a second slice. I also found the chandeliers and the detailed mural made the space feel classy but still casual. The service was also very good. I will definitely be back.

We met with some friends for the Omakase menu and it was well worth the cost. With this, you get 12 or 15 different sashimi options. Each were so delectable and tasted Ike the best quality. They presented about 3 of the 12 at a time so you were not overloaded with a big platter. Highly recommend if you like the raw type. Our server was fantastic and knew every single item that was placed on the table. Cocktails were so good as well and I recommend their off menu rum drink. Decor inside is cozy and modern but very inviting. Don’t sleep on the apps as well and you MUST get the Brussels! We will be back very soon!

“My son and I had the absolute pleasure of eating supper at the Mosquito supper Club last night. We drove from Pensacola Florida and it was so absolutely divine. I am originally from Mississippi and my entire life I have eaten gulf coast seafood. Best gumbo, ceviche was amazing, crabs claws yum. Tomato and cucumber salad with croutons. I cannot remember the names of everything. Potato salad with so good with a dash of hot sausage and in the gumbo I have never heard of doing it this way. We chose communal seating and enjoyed talking to everyone at our table. The ambiance of the mismatched vintage silver ware. The beautifully aged house with its milk glass lighting and copper ceiling medallions and aged plaster walls. It was such beautiful experience. The buttermilk ice cream with fig sorbet. Yum.”

“To give you a sense of the kind of service and care, the waitress informed us that she does not give a check until asked so that people can stay at the table as long as they like and not feel rushed. The owner is a wonderful character. He makes you feel like family and that is part of what makes the atmosphere so pleasant. Of course it's a restaurant. So it's the food that's most important. I had the grilled fish of the day .I can't recall having a better seasoned and cooked fish. Everything was wonderful. A little quirk is that they do not have hard liquor on the menu. It's available, but don't expect any exotic drinks. We will be returning.”

We ate outside as it was a beautiful evening and the inside didn't appeal to us. The food was amazing and the prices incredibly (almost unbelievably) reasonable. Apparently the chef has been there for 10 years and continues to wow the staff with his creativity and quality delicious dishes. We can't agree more. Usually we don't repeat a restaurant when we are on vacation because there are so many to try in a short period of time. This food was so delicious, we will partake again before we leave. As a side note, my husband is gluten free and there were a number of options for him. His red curry dish was wonderful, as was my tikki masala.”

We ordered the salmon grits, pork chops, oxtails and chicken and waffles. The DJ/entertainment was good. We had a good time. Our waitress was pleasant as well.”
