The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is nice, and the food is delicious. For the quality of food you receive, it’s also shockingly affordable. 2 entrees, 2 alcoholic beverages, and an appetizer was about $75.00.I would say that’s a pretty great deal for one of the best places around.”

They definitely know what they're doing here because even the strongest beers are smooth and they're all (that I tried) are really well done.Edit: I came back again for their "Bearded Tears" release party and got some food, too. First of, all the Bearded Tears (the strong ones) are excellent. I've tried 12 different beers/varieties here now and nothing isn't delicious. Second, I got a couple food menu items and they're also pretty tasty and were ready quickly. Couldn't be happier with this place.”

Drive-Thru Restaurants

The Preserve At 405 405 Spencer St, Syracuse American • $$
405 Spencer St, Syracuse

“Every time I've been here, it's been Eh.What you're paying for vs. what you're getting does not match. The portions are small and quality is just OK. I could see getting the same meal the Pastabilities and getting double the portion for a few dollars less. Also, dining experience and level of menu knowledge at other restaurants in the area is much higher elsewhere - for the price you're paying. I want to love it, honestly.Reservations: Getting a reservation would be made a lot easier if they would open up an online option - it's a hassle to have to wait to speak with a human.Experience: We went at 5pm on a Saturday night. My sister and I both ordered salad entrees that were about $26. Mine came on a side bowl/plate and was an extremely small portion. We both ordered salmon and each piece of salmon was a different color. Mine was white/very light pink and my sisters was very pink and fresh looking. I almost mistook mine for chicken before cutting into it. Not the end of the world as I understand appearance can vary from fish to fish - just seemed a little 'fishy' (off).Service was OK - nothing to shake a stick at. Basic and nothing over the top.Ambiance was eh. There appeared to be Top 40's playing the entire time we were there, which was odd being it was a Saturday night.Overall, just Ok. I had a gift card that I actually forgot for this visit (gah!) so will probably just give it away or order take-out.”

“This was a real treat to have dinner here. The service was excellent and extremely professional. The ambiance is beautiful. The food was excellent from the appetizer which was a lobster dip with rice chips to dinner with steaks and dessert of a strawberry cake with real strawberries. The only downfall is the price. Be prepared to pay for the excellent service and very good and distinctive taste. 2 people, where we had two drinks apiece and split a dessert. $220 before the tip. It was a treat since it is a unique place but I don't think it's a place I could go to more than a couple times a year.”

“This is a phenomenal venue for a bridal shower. My bridal shower was held there in April 2023. The staff was exceptional, making sure all of our guests had drinks, waters, coffee or anything they may need. Asking for my opinions on timing of cake, food, etc. The food was perfect particularly the lemon chicken, even gave us to go boxes at the end. They were flexible with accommodating some changes to their lunch menu as well that we requested. The rooms are well decorated, beautiful mirrors, greenery and exposed brick. Leaving for very little additional decor needing to be brought. We focused on centerpieces and some signage. We were not rushed out at the end while they were cleaning up. They welcomed my fiancé by his first name when he arrived showing that they pay attention to every detail. Even found a surprise gift from them amongst my gifts at the end! “We ordered catering for a holiday party from here and everything about our experience was incredible. From the initial phone call with Lisa when she patiently answered my million questions, took the order and emailed the invoice, I knew we made the right choice. The food was delivered at the time we planned by three people who carried it into our house and happily offered to set up the pans with sternos. They were quick, professional and friendly. The food was incredible. We ordered half pans of carnitas and chicken with peppers and onions, yellow rice and black beans. Tortillas, tortilla chips, pico, queso and guac completed our order. Several guests couldn’t make it due to being sick (tis the season) so we had a lot of leftovers which I am enjoying as I write this. The food was a huge hit with our friends and already on the list for next year’s annual party. 100% recommend ordering from this incredibly professional, kind and talented local business. The only downside is the service, they don't have enough staff during evening hours it seems, we waited a long time for someone to pay attention to us to bring bills and stuff. Also, they bring us the bill with 18% tips already added which is not nice, we are only 4 people. I had to ask to write the tip myself and they've let me. The motif is arts and crafts with accents of modern industrial. The ambiance is perfect. The menu is strategically perfect with great execution. Great wine selection that won’t leave anyone disappointed. We started with some appetizers: Shrimp bao buns with sriracha mayo and seared scallops with caper-honey sauce. Wow. Then for entrees, we had the short ribs with mushroom risotto - which we think is the best entree of them all. Also we had the cioppino. Very Delicious. I would have only asked for more toast to continue to soak up all the remaining tomato broth! It’s that good. Finally, the desserts are a must. They have flights of homemade desserts that gives you the opportunity to try a little of everything. Great for the ones that can’t decide. Our flight had the the flourless chocolate fudge, the carrot cake and my favorite, the cheesecake! Treat yourself and enjoy the hospitality of Natalie and Joel!”

It's interesting to note that the preference for spiciness in food can vary greatly from region to region in China, with some areas favoring extremely hot dishes. This regional diversity is part of what makes Chinese cuisine so rich and fascinating. For those who enjoy the fiery kick in their meals, a restaurant that doesn't shy away from authentic spice levels offers a taste of true Chinese culinary traditions. “After several years of having no Thai restaurant to call our own, I think we finally found our place. The food was amazing, the service was prompt and very friendly and engaging. I was warned when I ordered the hot (their spice levels are mild, medium, hot, and Thai hot, and I'm not doing Thai hot ever again, IYKYK). We had a great conversation with our server about the spice level and the food quality. I told her I came here for the heat and to let me have it. There's just something about Thai spice that compliments the dishes so well, it's why I love Thai cuisine so much when done right. Can I just tell you how happy this food made us? When we lost our local Thai place, it was like there was a death in the family. This was like seeing an old friend again. I ordered panang curry with chicken and Julie ordered a mango cashew stir fry. Wow. Both dishes were amazing. The flavors were so pronounced, the veggies were so fresh. It hit all the buttons. And just like the place we used to frequent, the heat was perfect. It was about 8 star heat for those of you who frequented Thai rose. I told my server when she brought it out I was quite excited to be able the see the heat in my dish with all the red speckles in it. We can't wait to return and explore the rest of the menu, very highly recommended.”

2419 S Salina St, Syracuse

“We've wanted to try this place for years, but it's never occurred to us during a Friday or Saturday, which are the only days they're open. Last Friday was one of those days we knew we needed to order out, but we were well on track to make a whole evening out of fretting over where to go. I don't know what it is, but sometimes absolutely nothing in the world sounds good. By some act of god, I remembered this place and our evening was saved. Their menu changes weekly, so we referred to their Facebook page for this week's options. I've only heard great things about them, so I had no question whatever we ordered would be good. No prices on their website, and money was definitely an issue on the eve of the St. Patrick's Day Parade, so we made kind of a flow chart in case pricing got crazy. Placing the order over the phone was difficult. They couldn't understand us, and they had to run every question by somebody else and get back to us. We ordered the jerk chicken and smothered pork combos, then threw in a pint of shrimp fried rice. I wish I could have tried everything; it was really tough coming to a decision. Cash only. I read so many reviews and everything they had online and didn't see this mentioned. Luckily I had just hit the ATM for the parade. The place is pretty small, take-out only. Easy parking, easy in and out. Everyone's super friendly. A lot of the appeal is how clearly they take pride in what they do. All around it just seems incredibly authentic and like nobody's cutting corners. So the food was great all around. We'd eaten garbage all week and were really going for that fresh, wholesome feeling, and they delivered in every way. The only hiccup was that they gave us Smothered Chicken (I think) instead of Smothered Pork. They labeled the box SP, but put the wrong thing in it. I was disappointed to see it because the pork was the first thing I knew for sure I wanted to get. Six seconds into the meal though, I truly didn't even care anymore. It was absolutely amazing. So tender it came right off the bone. It has to be the best I've ever felt about a chicken thigh entrée. I've only tried Jerk Chicken a few times, and mostly from a few Jamaican restaurants right here in town. I never really understood the point of it, like the taste just never amounted to anything I cared about. One bite of this one and it all made sense. Like, I now understand what they're going for with the flavor. Same perfectly tender chicken, and we absolutely loved the taste of both. We were curious about how the Shrimp Fried Rice would shake out with soul food, and it's definitely unique from Chinese takeout. Nowhere near as greasy, and it had a more savory, mildly smoky taste to it. No conflict with the beds of rice our entrées came on either. This wasn't our favorite fried rice, but it was good to have with our meals. My favorite side was the baked beans. Perfect texture, amazing taste. So soft and yet, so completely distinct. Didn't even know I could enjoy plain no-frills baked beans this much. The collard greens and yams were about average. I think for yams I'm used to a lot more butter and sugar than these ones had. Collard greens were just straightforward as well, no taste outside the greens themselves. Texture couldn't have been better though. Mac and cheese was good, but well past al dente. Super soft and didn't really pack enough flavor to make it top tier. The cornbread is standard issue - really soft and pretty dry with just the regular cornbread taste. I'd love to try some of the other things on the menu, but probably wouldn't for the price. There's nothing here I wouldn't be absolutely excited to have, but the experience wasn't profound enough to pull us back for $25 a plate.”

“During our stay at the Embassy Suites, my family and I dined at Salt City Eatery upon arriving late. Hotel dining experiences can be hit or miss, but this place is definitely a HIT! The food is not just delicious, it's exciting! The chef's passion and technical skills truly elevate the dishes and overall dining experience. With techniques like spherification adding a fun element to some dishes, dining here is a unique and delightful experience. On our first night, we enjoyed bruschetta, steak sirloin, caprese chicken, and chicken truffle pasta – all perfectly cooked, beautifully plated, and generously portioned. The meal was so good that we returned for dinner on our last night. This time, we tried the salmon and burger with truffle fries. The salmon was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful presentation and delightful flavors in every bite. The chef's creation of lemon butter caviar to complement the salmon was a truly memorable touch! It's a shame that the hotel doesn't promote the restaurant more because it truly is a hidden gem! This unexpected culinary experience added to our already wonderful stay at the Embassy Suites.”

“The food was good. The meal deals are worth the price. The mac and cheese bowl was overpriced at $10 for what we got. The one employee made all of our sandwiches and was very polite. The lady behind the counter wasn't very nice. She wouldn't help the employee as she was building a charcuterie tray. She abruptly asked the employee to repeat the question that we asked him after he answered it, which came off as rude. We also asked for banana peppers on our paninis which she repeatedly told the employee was extra and had to be charged as so.The food was good, as I said, but the service was ok. “My husband is West African and was born and raised in NYC, where he had more access to his cultural foods. Once he moved to Syracuse, he desperately craved the delicious foods that he grew up on. Unfortunately, African cuisine is not as accessible as it once was for him. Luckily, we have Yelp, and we're able to simply type in African cuisine and The Taste of Africa was listed as an option. We decided to stop in and check them out. I can tell instantly upon arriving that the aroma alone teleported my husband back to his NYC days. His excitement on its own was enough for me to leave a rave review! The ambiance of the restaurant is very clean cozy and comfortable. You can either dine in or opt for takeout. Once we decided that we would dine in, We were greeted kindly and told we could sit where we liked. Upon sitting, we were immediately given our menus. The selections here all sound amazing, which made it difficult for me who's never had African cuisine to choose. Ultimately, I decided to order their stewed beef with rice. My husband ordered the red snapper with cassava leaf. We also ordered plantain for our starter. Each dish was so full of flavor! As a first-timer, I was very pleased. My husband was very impressed with his meal as well. We were checked on quite often by our waitress, and she was extremely kind. Towards the end of our meal, the owner came over to our table, and he was also very personable and kind. Overall, this is a wonderful family owned restaurant. We had a wonderful first experience dining with The Taste of Africa and will definitely return again. I encourage anyone who's interested in trying African cuisine to give them a try. Owners are very kind and extremely helpful when it comes to explaining what each dish is.Update: These photos are from our 2cd visit to this restaurant (take out).”
