Matteo Ristorante Italiano 439 E 900 S, Salt Lake City Italian • $$$

“If you like Italian food then you have to visit this restaurant in SLC! We went there twice during our 4 day stay. The service was great and so was the food! For appetizers I recommend the whipped Brie and carpaccio. The bread service was also so yummy! As for the entrees we got the risotto, brasato braised beef, truffle pasta which were 10/10. The filet Mingon was also tasty but could use a little bit less salt. Ravioli al Funghi is vegan and also tasted very fresh. As for dessert I would recommend the tiramisu! Honestly everything was flavorful 10/10 recommend.”

“The steak salad here is life changing. I’m not ready to declare it the best steak I’ve ever had, but it is without a doubt the best “add steak to your xxx” I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, the amazing flavor and tenderness of a skirt steak but the leanness of…something leaner, fillet? Really good, we’ll be back. The crispy artichoke side dish was also a stand out, I’d order that again as well.”

Red Iguana 736 W N Temple St, Salt Lake City Mexican • $

“I see why there is long a wait here every night. The food we had today was spectacular! We've experienced Tex-Mex in Austin and Cal-Mex in Southern California. Red Iguana more than holds it own against those two famous areas of the country for Mexican cuisine. This place looks like a hole in the wall from all the stickers on the door and windows, but don't let those fool you. This establishment serves up world-class Mexican food. This is a must visit restaurant in Salt Lake City.”

Red Iguana 2 866 W S Temple St, Salt Lake City Mexican • $

“For years, I wasn't a fan of Red Iguana because I was getting the wrong thing for my preferences. This time, I tried one of the combination plates that came with a beef taco, and an enchilada, and a chili relleno. This dish comes with rice and beans, and it is out of this world! Before ordering, we got the mole sampler, and I was able to mix and match two moles on my enchilada. The chips and salsa are also amazing, and my boyfriend's dinner was delicious! The fried ice cream is some of the best I've had! If you go here, get the fried ice cream as dessert! The service was professional, friendly, and fast. Our water was always topped off, and they kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. The ambiance is fun and lively, even during more mellow times.I would come here every week if I could! I love this place!”

It's truly a fusion restaurant, and they did it perfectly. We knew this place had great reviews, and if I could give 10/5 stars, I would. I went with a friend who was in from out of town. We both walked in and fell in love with the atmosphere! The whole vibe is very New Orleans. It's very visually appealing. As for the food ?????? AMAZING! The blackened alligator tacos were delish! My favorite dish is a tossup between the andouille sausage flatbread pizza and the fried green tomatoes! The beignets were so good and the dipping sauces only added to the experience. Loved the berry cobbler as well. We truly didn't have a bad bite of food. Our server was next level amazing. Starbucks 50 Medical Dr N, Salt Lake City Coffee Shops • $

“This Starbucks is probably one of the busiest locations in the valley because it is located in the U of U Hospital and healthcare providers are always tired & overworked. The amount of volume and fast service this location still does is so impressive, I give props to these baristas! Literally they are keeping this hospital going and running. The drinks have always been made properly and have always been just as delicious even with how busy the baristas are. I enjoy Frappuccino's the most, especially the Mocha Cookie Crumble one, so that is my usual order. I think because of the amount of orders that come through in a day, they do not allow online orders to mess with the queue (is what I believe), which may be kind inconvenient for some, but this location is almost purely for healthcare providers, so those who NEED a coffee will come and wait in the long-looking, but actually short line. Most people that come by the Starbucks do no sit in the area, they normally take their drink and go. This is a high-volume, to-go based Starbucks, so the turn over in the area is quite a lot and so there will normally be seats available if you're looking to sit. It may look crowded, but it's just providers waiting for their drink to take back to their unit.”

Denny's 1701 W N Temple St, Salt Lake City Diner • $

“This Denny’s is certainly in a rough part of town. I was pleasantly surprised to come in to a service oasis in comparison to other eateries around. I was greeted, seated, and treated kindly within seconds. Fantastic service and follow up from host and server. Food was super fast, but strangely- looked like the picture perfect menu! Everything was cooked and plated perfectly. Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to have the same experience. I could whine that it cost too much, but I still expect to pay .50 for a candy bar ?. My ONLY complaint is there is no longer public Wi-Fi. I intentionally choose where I eat so I can get work done online at the same time. I get that it’s a rough area and people will hang around just to use the internet, but there are options out there to discourage use from those that aren’t active customers. I know this isn’t an issue for most of the patrons, so I get that it’s a business decision. Sadly, I won’t be back to this location because of this. Still 5 stars for everything else!”

“Our food at Valter's Osteria was fantastic! My husband and I were looking for a top tier restaurant for our last night in Salt Lake City and Valter's Osteria did not disappoint. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous but still manages to feel like a family-owned establishment. It is an upscale restaurant even though they do not have a dress code. If you do not want to feel out of place, I suggest dressing up a little bit. It is a fairly small dining space for how busy they are. While I am not a fan of cramped dining, the waiters bus the tables regularly, so you do not typically have too much on your table at any time. The wait staff is also very serious, which I mistook at first. It seems to be the type of high-class atmosphere they are going for and not that they are looking down on you. It made me feel a little small at first but by the time we got our appetizer I was over it.Our waiter, Gustavo, had a lot of good suggestions and we took him up on all of them. We ordered a porchetta, rucola e fontina for our appetizer. It was good and light. For our entrees we ordered veal albese and the nana in porchetta savinese (duck in cognac and grape sauce). I had the veal, and it was really good but the duck dish my husband had was absolutely delicious. It was very different from anything we have eaten before, and I am sure we will order it again if we ever go back to Valter's Osteria. We had to order dessert and the only time our waiter smiled at us was when we were bringing us the desserts. We knew it was going to be good! For dessert we ordered the tiramisu which was so good it almost made me cry. I know that is dramatic, but it was so good, and it made me so happy! We also ordered the lemon gelato with honey and lemon juice, and it was hands down the best dessert my husband and I have ever had at a restaurant. The waiter prepares the dessert table side, and it is really fun to watch. I could go back to Valter's Osteria just for the lemon gelato. It is pretty rare that my husband and I enjoy everything we get at a restaurant, but here everything was absolutely delicious. If you are in the Salt Lake City area and are looking for an incredible Italian restaurant, look no further than Valter's Osteria.”

“PSA: if you actually like ranch dressing, you'll need to order extra since they give you a 1/3-1/2 of what you would need for the amount of food they give you. I'm not asking for a bucket of ranch with my wings, but I actually want to be able to dip of some of the wings in it and not use it all for the veggies. I'm talking one of those little 1-2 oz sauce containers full for a half pound vegan meat and veggies. Had to eat what I could, put my lid on my takeout container and put it in the fridge and wait until the next day to eat it, when I was able to buy some vegan ranch from the grocery store. Luckily all I needed to do was pop the little metal container in the oven and my wings were truly delicious, but I am physically incapable of eating wings without ranch. Whack. Was a Doordash order. Now I know, but first time orderers aren't gonna know. Delicious otherwise.”

We ordered toro sashimi, Stargazer and mercury roll, but when the toro came it was a grayish white color which had us worried. Everyone who loves sushi knows that Toro is supposed to be pink... but the waitress was really really helpful. She not only asked the kitchen staff about the reason for the color, she also returned the dish back to the kitchen after we said we didn't want it. We then ordered a wagyu steak fearing for their fish quality, but the rest of the sushi rolls were amazing with big chunks of juicy sashimi inside. I'm pretty sure Stargazer had bluefin tuna on the topping. The wagyu was delicious as well. cooked to perfection for both the meat and the lightly battered tempura asparagus. Over all pretty satisfying experience. I hope the toro sashimi was just a random error. Coming back to try more next time!”

We went right after it opened and they didn't have their liquor license yet which they said they should have soon. We got the smoked trout dip (4/5) the chips were especially good. The risotto (1.5/5) was our least favorite. It was a little crunchy and the green apples in it didn't really compliment the dish. The braised beef and hummus was INCREDIBLE (6/5). So so tasty and tender. The pomegranate molasses was such a nice touch and the flat bread was awesome. Speaking of which the bread they bring out at the beginning also INCREDIBLE (6/5). We also got the smoked pastrami and charred cabbage (4/5). It was a yummy dish. I don't think I'd get it again. Surprisingly the charred cabbage was the star of the show, not the pastrami but it was still an enjoyable dish to try. We will definitely be back to Roux!”

“Atmosphere was excellent. Relaxed. High backed booths give private vibe. Service was excellent and friendly. Wagyu burger was juicy, fresh and delicious and allowed multiple flavors to ring through. Ravioli was flavorful and not too heavy. The meat and cheese board was underwhelming but did have many good flavors (blood orange cheddar cheese!!!) and the portions were good for sharing. The house salad was just ok and felt a little drowned in dressing and seemed lifeless. I was excited to try the dark chocolate cake and while it had excellent flavor it was dry and a bit disappointing. We would definitely return and try some additional entrees and just drink in the vibes.”

The bartender brought out a drink that they suggested, wanted to make SURE that we liked it… told us if we didn’t she’ll take it back and bring us another.. that was without even sayin a word!! I believe our server was Mikel and she was top level in making sure that we were taken care of at alllll times! But as we looked around that was what the staffs mission was. They were all on the same page with that message. We started off with the Cajun Seafood Balls. Smh great!! The gumbo… they DIDNT miss a beat with this!! Tons of meat!! The potatoes as others have mentioned are fresh cut and delicious. I ate them with the fantasic aji verde and man, it was delicious. The service while were there was ... fine. not flawless. Maybe they were short staffed but it was right at noon. Another table mentioned to the waitress (although he was not very nice) that he had asked three times for his inca cola. So, if true... then i mean, i'm kinda with him. but he did other things to. Very delicious but personally i could taste the wooden skewers just a bit. Then we ordered crispy style sushi- spicy tuna with scallions and crunchy shallots. Pretty delicious! Rice was fried perfectly. I've had this at jinyas before and it was very oily. But this one was perfect. I'm just not sure the texture of the rice is my personal favorite. I would order again if I was with someone who's never had it like my mom or a friend.Secondly we had a tempura fried roll- DTH roll. P good. Not enough texture. Missing a veggie in this one. Also they put cherry tomatoes on it? And covered the whole thing in cheese? Just odd choices for a vegan restaurant. The cauliflower wings are just roasted cauliflower… tasted great but why call them wings? The green curry is bomb as well. Also server was wonderful. Cool industrial interior as well. Pricey as hell though, almost no entrees are under $20. Cheapest I saw was $19, most were $21+. Desserts looked absolutely splendid, but we didn’t get them :(HALF OF THEIR MENU WAS CHEESE BASED ITEMS BY THE WAY! WHY?? I’m talking about a competitor around the corner. But If you have standards in your dining experience when you go out to spend your hard earned money, then Seasons hits the mark. “After eating at Stanza, I couldn't believe I'd never eaten here before. The food here was an unexpected treat. The flavors in every dish complimented each other in such a way that I didn't think were possible. Typically, when I go out to eat, I may find one or two things I want to try. However, this place offered so many delicious descriptions of their dishes that I couldn't pick between 5 or 6 different dishes. I chose the pecan crusted rack of lamb. I'm so glad I did because it was cooked to perfection, and the flavor was devine. The mascerpone polenta was a flavorful surprise. Order it! You won't be disappointed. The Kallette salad and the linguine dish were a knockout! Every bite offered the most amazing flavors. You seriously can't go wrong with whatever you order here. This place is seriously a secret surprise! I'm gonna come back here and have told several of my friends about since dining here. Besides the food, the atmosphere is nice and inviting.

I was skeptical at first because it's by a gas station but it's actually a nice clean place where you can sit and eat inside or take out. My husband and I ordered a lot and we were not disappointed. Reasonable price and very good food im glad this place is nearby now I know where to go when I'm craving Chinese cuisine!”

Roxberry Juice Co. 28 State St #114, Salt Lake City Juice • $

“This is the tastiest and most original smoothie place I've seen for a very long time. Iron Strong and Flu Fighter (as a Foo Fighters fan, I find that name hilarious) were delicious, made with fresh ingredients and very little added ice. Yes there was one employee only but the work was not trivial and one should appreciate the effort. Worth the wait. Maybe some $7 for a medium size smoothie sounds a little much but I thought it was worth it too.”

Rose Canyon Deli 3676 California Ave A104, Salt Lake City American • $

“Such a cute little unexpected place in an industrial area! I was so impressed with Rose Canyon Deli. Everyone working was extremely friendly and made me feel so welcome. Service was quick and everything was super clean. The food was so delicious, and the pricing was so reasonable! I wish i had excuses to come here more often, because it was so good. As customers were leaving, I kept hearing "see you tomorrow" "see you next week" etc, and it's no surprise, because this no frills little deli was perfect.”

“Been wanting to try this place for a while, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was seriously SO tasty - chai, snapper, chicken, greens, plantains, even down to the rice and beans - the flavors were incredible. Every bite we took we said "wow, THAT is good." It's truly a fusion restaurant, and they did it perfectly. We knew this place had great reviews, and if I could give 10/5 stars, I would. Would have really loved to try dessert, but we'll save that for next time because we will definitely be back.”

VFW Bar 2920 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City Veterans Organizations • $

“VFW posts are well known for being very supportive of veterans and this post is no exception. They run an open bar, non-veterans are welcome, and you don’t need to be a BFW member to have a drink there. Drinks are very cheap, the bartenders are friendly and fast, you can run a tab with a credit card, and they have pretty good bands most weekends. This is not a fancy bar. I was there with some other vets and it was very friendly. I recommend it.”

“I rank hard because I have been blessed to see much in terms of food... By local standards it is on the top. The food is well presented, it has a flair across each dish, and it tasty! I do not live on SL, I am on my second day of a weekend here; it seems to be one more of those places you need to look for, but you won't regret finding it. Hands down!”

“The atmosphere and decor was really cool, but the table and the chairs we were sat at weren't comfortable for 6 people. Our waiter was very nice, when he ever came around, it took a long time in between drinks for him to return. Our food was good, but they missed one person's order, so their dish arrived when everyone else's were almost finished. The liquor selection is impressive, but my experience there was not. I'll try again for brunch, a lot of people have said that's a far better time to go.”

“High end restaurant. Pretty busy. Attentive servers. Good and high quality food. Good size menu( not too many options but enough options to choose a protein you like) . It was three of us. We shared Spanish octopus and grilled carrots for appetizers for table. We also got bottles of wine and two orders of bread for the table. My friend got branzila ( I think this is how to write the fish name, it was not in the menu), I ordered the fish stew and other friend orders the scallop and all of them were very yummy. Don’t plan on sharing any main dish or don’t plan to have leftovers. Portions look ok and I thought I was full when left the restaurant but I was still feeling hungry after. We got special waiters because my friend used to work there and they made sure we had a good time.Parking: Paid 2 hours street parkingKid-friendliness: No kid”

Roux Restaurant 515 E 300 S, Salt Lake City Italian • $$

“My wife and I have been excited to try this place! The environment and decor is great. The service was awesome. The food was really good. We would definitely come back.

The Burger and Mac Shack 1923 E Murray Holladay Rd, Salt Lake City Fast Food • $

“Found this little gem of burger jont in the holiday area of Salt Lake. Had their lunch special (cheese burger and curly fries) and was pleasantly wow! The fries we cooked to a golden crispy brown (you'd be surprised how often this is screwed up) and the burger was done to perfection (not greasy or over cooked)! I also got a side of their Mac& cheese which was on point! Sadly, I didn't know that there was an pulled pork option for this until after I ate... Guess I'll have to go back (such a shame ?)!The staff (owner) came out to my table to personally ensure that everything was great and was extremely nice (this alone is why I give it the review I do). Keep it up guys, you're killing it!! I'll be back for more!Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp directly in front of the main door and the spaces to park in are in the perfect location.”

“Abby's the BEST!This is my third visit to this new location. First two times through the drive up were bad, very poor service (missing utensils and order wrong) and an unfriendly, disinterested window girl. This time Abby greeted me with a smile and hello, very friendly and engaged and even put extra utensils (for the desert) without even asking for them. Definitely an improvement. Keep improving and we'll keep coming! Thanks again Abby!”
