Calamari preparation can range from horribly rubbery and tasteless, to just “meh,” or to what Carlyle has done with it - fried to perfection, with complementary flavors in the sauces and corn salsa- for the win!I ordered the smoked salmon on my first visit two years ago, and because it was so tastefully prepared, I couldn’t bring myself to try another dish. It is just delicious.Hubby ordered crab cakes, along with coleslaw and shoestring fries. Crab cakes were meaty and flavorful. Sides were good.Atmosphere and service are good. I love that it’s in a walkable area, just a few blocks from the Shirlington Hilton. Give Carlyle a try!”

“Tried Ruthie's for the 1st time yesterday. I'd read many good reviews (understandably) but had never tried it. What a great find! It is light and airy. The service is friendly and efficient. The menu is interesting with a good variety. My salad was delicious and so large that I took half of it home for another meal as I saw others doing as well. My husband's barbeque was equally delicious. We will definitely be repeat customers!”

“My husband and I went here and were seated right away. The service was excellent the entire visit. We wanted to try as many things as possible so we ordered from their pre fixed menu option. Our table was pretty small So the table got really crowded fast! Food was pretty good, the fried fish was surprisingly my favorite. Meal ended with a dessert too. Nice touch. “In recent years there seems to be a proliferation of small-plate Mediterranean restaurants. But Yayla remains as one of the best, reasonably priced originals in northern Virginia. There is a pleasing range of mezzes, salads, entrees hot and cold, flat breads, spreads, etc . I had a Yayla mule, 3 spreads, lemony rice soup and superb shrimp. Friends chose a range of other dishes. I can guarantee whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Everything is flavorful, fresh and beautifully presented. Wait staff and servers are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and not obtrusive. Don’t miss the nice selection of creative cocktails, wine variety and desserts. “We had a blast here last night at trivia! It was five rounds of 11 questions and I loved how they covered many different topics. I also appreciated using a phone app to play, which definitely helped with hearing questions when the restaurant was packed and quite lively. For food, I got the blackened mahi-mahi and brussels sprouts. The mahi-mahi was scrumptious, tender and smoky from the grill. It was served over yummy cilantro rice and creamy/zesty lemon butter sauce. Needless to say, I wiped my plate clean! The brussels sprouts was also stellar - everything crispy in it from bacon to shallots to the actual brussel sprouts. It was served with bleu cheese, which rounded out the crispy heartiness with just the right amount of funk! We also sampled through a few of the delicious beers on tap from kolsches to sours. Service was prompt and great, too. What a fun time - hope to come back soon!”

We left fully satisfied, and I know I will be back again and again! I highly recommend the roasted beet salad, the churrasco, and the passion fruit cheesecake. My friends loved the pan con jamon, the bacon wrapped dates, and the arepitas. Really, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! The service was impeccable, and the ambiance was beautiful. “Did Saturday brunch at Coco B's and it was absolutely one of my favorite brunches in the entire DC area! The restaurant itself was very cool, turned what used to be whitlow's into a super nice vibe. Started with the guacamole and yucca fries for apps, both were awesome and a very sizeable portion size on the guac which was nice. Our group had several different meals including the breakfast burrito, avocado toast, hangover burger, and breakfast platter - we were all raving about each of our dishes, so good! The service was also amazing and brought all our items quickly and nailed every meal with any customizations we had requested. And we did the bottomless mimosas for $20 and they had a bunch of different fun flavors for us to get, and the staff was super on top of the refills, taking care of us whenever we were getting low/empty! Definitely will be back to this new spot, especially when the weather warms up and the roof opens! Can't wait!”

“One thing my husband and I used to do every Friday after a hard work week when we lived in Mexico City was order a mess of tacos and just veg in front of the TV. Since we moved back to the U.S. a few years ago, we have missed those taco Fridays as we haven’t been able to find anything like we would have had down there. If you’ve ever wondered what authentic Mexican tacos—not Tex Mex, not weird fusion, not overpriced silly frou-frou nonsense—taste like, this is your place. I took one bite of a taco (literally don’t remember which one, they were all great) and said “oh my GOD.” Yes, it caused me to blaspheme. It tasted like home.”

“Kabob Palace is hidden behind the slightly shady plaza in Crystal City. There is a lot of seating inside and you wait in line before ordering and paying. With 9 of us a couple Sundays ago, the food came out surprisingly fast and the portions were huge. CHICKEN KABOB (BONELESS) - 19 (post-tax) Again, the portions were massive. I chose chickpeas as my side/vegetable and there was a heaping amount of chickpeas on top of a very flavorful bed of rice. A small side of salad and a several pieces of juicy chicken breasts that have been charred and seared to perfection. I ate maybe half of it and was able to make two smaller lunches out of it the couple days after. This was such a good deal and the food was so delicious. Again, that chicken really be hitting and you can eat that rice on its own because its well-seasoned. I would highly recommend Kabob Palace. It is the best kabob restaurant I've had in Arlington so far.”

From taking time to make even a simple breakfast of a sausage McGriddle and hash browns look aesthetically pleasing, to ensuring that my iced coffee was properly mixed right with enough cream to have a perfect balance of taste to indulgent coffee. “This taco truck is located on 14th St in Arlington,Virginia, right off of Rt. 50 West. Not only are the tacos here delicious but the customer service is very good. The few times I drove by this food truck I noticed pretty decent customer lines which led me to believe this place sold delicious tacos. However on this day I was in luck because the truck did not have a line, on a Saturday evening. I could smell the grill as I crossed the street on my way to the truck. The ordering process was very easy and efficient. On this occasion I ordered Asada (beef) and Pastor (pork) tacos to-go. The tacos were full-flavor and delicious. Overall this was a good taco truck experience and one which I will try again when in the area. Give them a shot for your next taco experience.”

“Had a tasty Too Good To Go meal at City Kabob! I got the Kabob Platter which was a delicious mix of spicy Tandoori Chicken - perfectly cooked, soft, and seasoned. Very flavorful with a charcoal grill and was quite moist! Their Channa Masala was soft and packed a great spice blend that complimented the rice and chicken. The naan was a bit on the doughy side. The salad provided a fresh mix when combined with the spicy masala flavors. Overall, very delicious and good quality! Excited to try again!”

I have celiac disease, so it can be difficult to find chains that are willing to make it possible for me to eat their food with low risk of cross contamination. The Jimmy John's unwiches are perfect! Super hefty portions and fresh ingredients. The staff does everything they can to mitigate cross contamination (just call them/go in person to make sure they know about your allergy). I keep ordering from here because their staff continues to make sure my allergy needs are met, and they are a delight to talk to! Ben and his team are the best! Ordering process was pretty easy on the app, pick up and accuracy of the order have a little bit of issue: 1. both of the sandwiches were missing hot peppers, mayo and mustard 2. the order was supposed to be placed on the pickup shelf in the store but I think the store was so busy and maybe understaffed the employees didn't have time to put out the ready pickup orders to the shelf. Had to wait a while there's a break before the staff can bring out my order. It was stressful because I had to watch that my car is ok, it was idling outside on an unofficial spot Overall, sandwiches are pretty good and order is easy. Execution of orders and pickup process could be better.”

“Mambo sauce vs mumbo sauce as well as the sweet and spicy jam sauce. The mambo sauce was spicy. However the sweet and spicy jam sauce was not at all. It w as more sweet than anything else. I believe McDonald’s is trying to play a trick on words with their sauces because they did not meet my expectation. Of the two I like the mambo sauce. The customer service could be better. The cashier appeared agitated when I asked her to repeat the count for each choice of nuggets. Then went I went to pick up my order. I checked my bag and noticed the two different sauces I had asked for were not inside of my bag. When I asked for the other sauce I was told I would be charged. I shared that I would give once sauce back to them in order to receive the other sauce I had asked for. They agreed. However, if the cashier had gotten it correct when I placed my order the interaction would not have had to occur at the stage of pick up.”

“This is a very good taco truck experience in Arlington, VA. The first time I visited was a Sunday evening and surprisingly the truck had a line of customers waiting to be served. To me this was a good indication that prepare good food. The ordering process was simple and where the truck is stationed there are a couple picnic tables off to the side for customers to eat their food on-site. The tacos here are delicious. I've tried their Asada and Pastor tacos, both of which are delicious and had all of the appropriate Mexican flavors you'd expect. I've also tried their quesadillas. On two separate occasions I ordered the chicken quesadilla and both times they were delicious. More importantly the way in which the quesadillas were prepared was consistent both times. What I like about their quesadillas is they just don't load them with melty cheese for the visual effect. It seems they use a Mexican blend cheese and an adequate amount. The flavor is present which I appreciate most. This isn't the normal cheesy quesadilla that is flavorless. Overall a very good experience. Give them a try.”

“PhoWheels, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. PhoWheels has consistently amazing food, the friendliest staff in the world, and a totally unique fusion concept. I've had the pork belly tacos twice, the bo-khirria banh mi, and I just barely managed to make myself not order the pork belly tacos a third time so that I could try the oxtail pho tacos. Their pho was absolutely delicious - I liked it even more than the bo kho - and there was such a generous amount of oxtail in the tacos that I scooped part of it directly into the pho and just ate both dishes that way. Their meat is always so tender and well-seasoned. Their roti is perfect - so buttery and soft and flaky. It's worth every penny, and I'm always trying to convince people to try it. You won't regret it! Fair warning that the seating is all outdoors, so plan to get the food to go when the weather isn't nice, but it's a really convenient location right by the metro with plenty of parking around, so it's easy to get to, and the food travels well in my opinion. Eventually I'll manage to try everything on the menu, or maybe just order the pork belly tacos 14 more times.”

I don't love everything they make, but since they make about 87,000 different things, you can find something. Their emphasis is old style German baking with Christian and Jewish calendar seasonal flourishes. This is, for instance, the first place I ever had a "hot cross bun"-- like in the children's poems. (They had them for Easter). And they have a great sandwich bar where I always get egg salad. The quiches are good too. They have coffee and real German sausages that look delicious too. And a nice seating area in front of a huge window. There's always room. So basically, you could spend all day here eating, drinking coffee, reading, looking out the window, and planning your next meal. That would be a great day. (PS: parking is annoying but do-able)”

The freshly baked biscuit was fluffy on the inside and toasty on the outside. The chopped bacon mixed and melted perfectly with the egg and cheese and the sandwich was served hot, fresh and delicious. Timber's breakfast sandwich might be slightly more expensive than the other options at DCA but not only was it hot, fresh and delicious but it was very hearty! When Robert handed me the sandwich, I immediately noticed how heavy it was. It's twice the weight of the breakfast sandwich from the other places but, being freshly made and baked, did not sit in the stomach heavy.I'm looking forward to my next stop at DCA airport to enjoy another bacon, egg and cheese biscuit from Timber Pizza in E Gates.Thank you, Robert!”

“We weren't planning to eat here. Instead, we had a reservation for brunch in DC. However, Metro was really screwed up. Long story short---track work and a disabled train at Pentagon City meant a slow ride that got slower when the train stopped at McLean and had to sit there for several minutes. We realized that we wouldn't make our reservation so my husband called the restaurant to cancel. So...we had to come up with Plan B. We got off at Virginia Square where I looked to see what was open. Right across the street, Medium Rare was open. We decided to give them a try. It was too late for brunch so, we had a very early dinner. Having never been to Medium Rare, I knew next to nothing about their menu. We were greeted and seated by a very nice employee. He took us to a two top and asked if it was okay, which it was. He gave us menus. It was then we noticed that the only item on the menu was a fixed price dinner. If I recall correctly, the meal was $28 per person. It comes with bread and butter, a simple mixed green salad and the main course which is coulotte steak, fries and "secret sauce". That was fine for us. To drink I had a "Lavender 75" which our server said had gin, lavender syrup and champagne in it. It turned out to be a good drink---flavorful and not too strong. My husband had a glass of Malbec. Our server was friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable about the menu. We asked her how she would recommend ordering the steak. She said "medium" which we decided to do. The bread came first. It was sliced and soft in the middle with a nice crust. Salad was next. It had a vinaigrette dressing and in addition to the mixed greens, a few sliced cherry tomatoes. This salad was splendid in its simplicity and we both enjoyed it. The main course arrived shortly after we finished our salads. The fries were piping hot and flavorful. As for the steak and "secret sauce" (which was basically a gravy) --- the gravy had good flavor that complimented the meat and the fries. The coulotte steak isn't the most tender cut around but it was sliced thinly and easy to eat. After we finished our main course, we were talking about getting dessert. No sooner did we discuss it but another server came to our table and put more meat, "secret sauce" and fries on our plate! We hadn't realized that everybody gets seconds! So...we ate the meat and a few fries as we still wanted dessert. For my dessert, I chose the hot fudge sundae with vanilla ice cream, while my husband chose the key lime pie. I hadn't had a hot fudge sundae in years! It was very attractively presented with a huge amount of whipped cream topped with a cherry plus since it was Easter, a "peeps" bunny was added. Thankfully, the fudge and the ice cream portions were normal ones. Some candied pearls added a bit of crunch. I enjoyed every bit of that sundae. My husband's key lime pie also came with a huge amount of whipped cream that also had some candied pearls in it. He said it was one of the best key lime pies he's had. Also, he had a cappuccino which he said was well prepared. As a side note --- they do a brunch on the weekends that has a larger menu. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and were pleased with the service. We both used the bathroom where, instead of piped in music, there are piped in French lessons. They were amusing as they were teaching how to ask someone out on a date :) Would we go again? We both say "yes".”

“Kabob Palace is hidden behind the slightly shady plaza in Crystal City. There is a lot of seating inside and you wait in line before ordering and paying. With 9 of us a couple Sundays ago, the food came out surprisingly fast and the portions were huge. CHICKEN KABOB (BONELESS) - 19 (post-tax) Again, the portions were massive. I chose chickpeas as my side/vegetable and there was a heaping amount of chickpeas on top of a very flavorful bed of rice. A small side of salad and a several pieces of juicy chicken breasts that have been charred and seared to perfection. I ate maybe half of it and was able to make two smaller lunches out of it the couple days after. This was such a good deal and the food was so delicious. Again, that chicken really be hitting and you can eat that rice on its own because its well-seasoned. I would highly recommend Kabob Palace. It is the best kabob restaurant I've had in Arlington so far.”
