Yayla Bistro 2201 N Westmoreland St, Arlington Mediterranean • $$

“In recent years there seems to be a proliferation of small-plate Mediterranean restaurants. But Yayla remains as one of the best, reasonably priced originals in northern Virginia. There is a pleasing range of mezzes, salads, entrees hot and cold, flat breads, spreads, etc . I had a Yayla mule, 3 spreads, lemony rice soup and superb shrimp. Friends chose a range of other dishes. I can guarantee whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Everything is flavorful, fresh and beautifully presented. Wait staff and servers are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and not obtrusive. Don’t miss the nice selection of creative cocktails, wine variety and desserts. Continued success and best wishes for this popular bistro!”

“My hubby and I have been to Carlyle twice. Both times we shared the Judith Point calamari with the corn salsa. Calamari preparation can range from horribly rubbery and tasteless, to just “meh,” or to what Carlyle has done with it - fried to perfection, with complementary flavors in the sauces and corn salsa- for the win!I ordered the smoked salmon on my first visit two years ago, and because it was so tastefully prepared, I couldn’t bring myself to try another dish. It is just delicious.Hubby ordered crab cakes, along with coleslaw and shoestring fries. Crab cakes were meaty and flavorful. Sides were good.Atmosphere and service are good. “We had a blast here last night at trivia! It was five rounds of 11 questions and I loved how they covered many different topics. I also appreciated using a phone app to play, which definitely helped with hearing questions when the restaurant was packed and quite lively. For food, I got the blackened mahi-mahi and brussels sprouts. The mahi-mahi was scrumptious, tender and smoky from the grill. It was served over yummy cilantro rice and creamy/zesty lemon butter sauce. Needless to say, I wiped my plate clean! The brussels sprouts was also stellar - everything crispy in it from bacon to shallots to the actual brussel sprouts. It was served with bleu cheese, which rounded out the crispy heartiness with just the right amount of funk! We also sampled through a few of the delicious beers on tap from kolsches to sours. Service was prompt and great, too. What a fun time - hope to come back soon!”

“Did Saturday brunch at Coco B's and it was absolutely one of my favorite brunches in the entire DC area! The restaurant itself was very cool, turned what used to be whitlow's into a super nice vibe. Started with the guacamole and yucca fries for apps, both were awesome and a very sizeable portion size on the guac which was nice. Our group had several different meals including the breakfast burrito, avocado toast, hangover burger, and breakfast platter - we were all raving about each of our dishes, so good! The service was also amazing and brought all our items quickly and nailed every meal with any customizations we had requested. And we did the bottomless mimosas for $20 and they had a bunch of different fun flavors for us to get, and the staff was super on top of the refills, taking care of us whenever we were getting low/empty! Definitely will be back to this new spot, especially when the weather warms up and the roof opens! Can't wait!”

“One thing my husband and I used to do every Friday after a hard work week when we lived in Mexico City was order a mess of tacos and just veg in front of the TV. Since we moved back to the U.S. a few years ago, we have missed those taco Fridays as we haven’t been able to find anything like we would have had down there. If you’ve ever wondered what authentic Mexican tacos—not Tex Mex, not weird fusion, not overpriced silly frou-frou nonsense—taste like, this is your place. I took one bite of a taco (literally don’t remember which one, they were all great) and said “oh my GOD.” Yes, it caused me to blaspheme. It tasted like home.”

Kabob Palace 2315 S Eads St, Arlington Halal • $

“Kabob Palace is hidden behind the slightly shady plaza in Crystal City. There is a lot of seating inside and you wait in line before ordering and paying. With 9 of us a couple Sundays ago, the food came out surprisingly fast and the portions were huge. CHICKEN KABOB (BONELESS) - 19 (post-tax) Again, the portions were massive. I chose chickpeas as my side/vegetable and there was a heaping amount of chickpeas on top of a very flavorful bed of rice. A small side of salad and a several pieces of juicy chicken breasts that have been charred and seared to perfection. I ate maybe half of it and was able to make two smaller lunches out of it the couple days after. This was such a good deal and the food was so delicious. Again, that chicken really be hitting and you can eat that rice on its own because its well-seasoned. I would highly recommend Kabob Palace. It is the best kabob restaurant I've had in Arlington so far.”

The few times I drove by this food truck I noticed pretty decent customer lines which led me to believe this place sold delicious tacos. However on this day I was in luck because the truck did not have a line, on a Saturday evening. I could smell the grill as I crossed the street on my way to the truck. The ordering process was very easy and efficient. On this occasion I ordered Asada (beef) and Pastor (pork) tacos to-go. The tacos were full-flavor and delicious. Ordering process was pretty easy on the app, pick up and accuracy of the order have a little bit of issue: 1. both of the sandwiches were missing hot peppers, mayo and mustard 2. the order was supposed to be placed on the pickup shelf in the store but I think the store was so busy and maybe understaffed the employees didn't have time to put out the ready pickup orders to the shelf. Had to wait a while there's a break before the staff can bring out my order. It was stressful because I had to watch that my car is ok, it was idling outside on an unofficial spot Overall, sandwiches are pretty good and order is easy. “Mambo sauce vs mumbo sauce as well as the sweet and spicy jam sauce. The mambo sauce was spicy. However the sweet and spicy jam sauce was not at all. It w as more sweet than anything else. I believe McDonald’s is trying to play a trick on words with their sauces because they did not meet my expectation. Of the two I like the mambo sauce. The customer service could be better. The cashier appeared agitated when I asked her to repeat the count for each choice of nuggets. Then went I went to pick up my order. I checked my bag and noticed the two different sauces I had asked for were not inside of my bag. When I asked for the other sauce I was told I would be charged. I shared that I would give once sauce back to them in order to receive the other sauce I had asked for. They agreed.

“This is a very good taco truck experience in Arlington, VA. The first time I visited was a Sunday evening and surprisingly the truck had a line of customers waiting to be served. To me this was a good indication that prepare good food. The ordering process was simple and where the truck is stationed there are a couple picnic tables off to the side for customers to eat their food on-site. The tacos here are delicious. I've tried their Asada and Pastor tacos, both of which are delicious and had all of the appropriate Mexican flavors you'd expect. I've also tried their quesadillas. On two separate occasions I ordered the chicken quesadilla and both times they were delicious. More importantly the way in which the quesadillas were prepared was consistent both times. What I like about their quesadillas is they just don't load them with melty cheese for the visual effect. It seems they use a Mexican blend cheese and an adequate amount. The flavor is present which I appreciate most. This isn't the normal cheesy quesadilla that is flavorless. Overall a very good experience. Give them a try.”

“PhoWheels, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. PhoWheels has consistently amazing food, the friendliest staff in the world, and a totally unique fusion concept. I've had the pork belly tacos twice, the bo-khirria banh mi, and I just barely managed to make myself not order the pork belly tacos a third time so that I could try the oxtail pho tacos. Their pho was absolutely delicious - I liked it even more than the bo kho - and there was such a generous amount of oxtail in the tacos that I scooped part of it directly into the pho and just ate both dishes that way. Their meat is always so tender and well-seasoned. Their roti is perfect - so buttery and soft and flaky. It's worth every penny, and I'm always trying to convince people to try it. You won't regret it! Fair warning that the seating is all outdoors, so plan to get the food to go when the weather isn't nice, but it's a really convenient location right by the metro with plenty of parking around, so it's easy to get to, and the food travels well in my opinion. Eventually I'll manage to try everything on the menu, or maybe just order the pork belly tacos 14 more times.”

“This place is a neighborhood classic. They keep the prices low (by Arlington standards) and the decor is awesome "mom's kitchen throwback". May it never, never change. I don't love everything they make, but since they make about 87,000 different things, you can find something. Their emphasis is old style German baking with Christian and Jewish calendar seasonal flourishes. This is, for instance, the first place I ever had a "hot cross bun"-- like in the children's poems. (They had them for Easter). And they have a great sandwich bar where I always get egg salad. The quiches are good too. They have coffee and real German sausages that look delicious too. And a nice seating area in front of a huge window. There's always room. So basically, you could spend all day here eating, drinking coffee, reading, looking out the window, and planning your next meal. That would be a great day. (PS: parking is annoying but do-able)”

The freshly baked biscuit was fluffy on the inside and toasty on the outside. The chopped bacon mixed and melted perfectly with the egg and cheese and the sandwich was served hot, fresh and delicious. Timber's breakfast sandwich might be slightly more expensive than the other options at DCA but not only was it hot, fresh and delicious but it was very hearty! When Robert handed me the sandwich, I immediately noticed how heavy it was. It's twice the weight of the breakfast sandwich from the other places but, being freshly made and baked, did not sit in the stomach heavy.I'm looking forward to my next stop at DCA airport to enjoy another bacon, egg and cheese biscuit from Timber Pizza in E Gates.Thank you, Robert!”

My husband also got the chicken thigh yakatori for three bucks, it was brought out hot, tender and delicious. For our entrees, we both got Tonkotsu, we added an extra egg and shared it, so we would each have one full egg in our ramen instead of just a half. “I attended the Cherry Blossom Tea this weekend with five friends, and it was pretty nice! Two people in our party had strict dietary restrictions (gluten free and dairy free), and they were perfectly accommodated. I do agree with what a few others have said about the service taking a while (our seating was at 2:30 and we didn’t finish until 4:30, making us a little late for a 4:45 event we were all going to). The tea was lovely though and the desserts + tea sandwiches were surprisingly filling! Not to mention the complementary mimosas were an added bonus. The price was a little high at $110 per person, but I guess it is the Ritz. We had purposefully picked this tea experience because it was supposed to be a little bit less compared to some other cherry blossom teas in the DMV, but it ended up being about the same. The restaurant was also a little bit loud, but overall it was a pretty good experience I’d recommend, especially if you have friends with dietary restrictions.”

“We went to the restaurant down at the wharf….. To start, the hostess at the front was on her phone and not really paying any mind to the people walking in the door. Come to find out after that was the floor manager. Then we get sat and none of the workers talk about who is in charge of that section. We did. It get me is or silverware. The very nice bartender comes up, gets us some water and menus gets us started and finally the sever comes over to us. The server took our order and checked on us twice. When the food was brought to the table we still didn’t have silverware and had to ask the food runner. Our server had a a ten top when we arrived and she was checking on her the whole time not paying any mind to the other tables she has. It was to the point I had to go up to someone ask for water refill bc both our glasses were empty. We finish our meals that were very good and no one but the bartenders are on the floor. I see our sever walk over to the restroom, she comes out looks at us and sees that we are sitting doing nothing, then walks over to a new 10 top and disappears. It’s at thing point I now have to walk over to the bartender and get our check and they are the ones that cash us out. Thank you to the bartender that took care of us”

Endo Sushi 3000 Washington Blvd, Arlington Sushi Bar • $$

“Walking into Endo Sushi doesn't initially scream "acrobatic antics," but the place has its flips and tricks up its sleeve—figuratively speaking, of course! It’s as quaint as they come, clean as a whistle, and home to a charming mural that could tell a thousand tales if only it could talk. The staff? They’re so cheerful and welcoming, you'd think they nailed a backflip before coming to work. And though you won't actually see any gymnastic feats (health and safety, folks!), their ability to deliver top-notch service and sushi with a smile is nothing short of spectacular. While the menu mysteriously lacks the high-flying acrobatics of crafting crab rangoon (I mean, how high can a crab even jump?), the sushi rolls are a culinary somersault of flavors. Yes, the place is simple—no unnecessary pizzazz or sequins needed here—but the experience? Excellent!Five stars to Endo Sushi for a meal where every bite feels like a mini celebration in your mouth. As I left, the whole team waved goodbye with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for Olympic gymnasts sticking the landing. So, while there may not be any literal backflips, dining at Endo feels like a perfect ten every time!”

“I recently had the pleasure of dining at T.H.A.I Shirlington restaurant and I cannot stop raving about their Green Curry Chicken. It was an unforgettable culinary experience! The flavors were simply divine, with the perfect balance of spices and creaminess. The tender chicken pieces combined with the aromatic green curry paste created a burst of delightful flavors in every mouthful. The dish was beautifully presented with vibrant green curry sauce garnished with fresh basil leaves. The portion size was generous, ensuring that I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied. The fragrance of the dish was irresistible, making it even more appetizing. What impressed me the most was the attention to detail in the preparation of the dish. The chicken was cooked to perfection, incredibly tender and juicy. The vegetables in the curry were fresh and crisp, contributing to the overall wonderful texture. The flavors were complex and well-balanced, creating a harmonious blend that left a lasting impression. The service at tT.H.A.I Shirlington restaurant was exceptional as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to answer my questions and make recommendations. Mejana - Lebanese Cuisine At the corner of Clarendon & Adams, 2300 Wilson Blvd, Arlington Lebanese • $$

“We came to Mejana for my mother's birthday. The service was ok, server was young and there may have been a language barrier. Because we were a large party we were told our only option on the menu was the Lebanese Journey which turned out to be basically a large sampler of many menu items from apps, meats and 1 dessert. I was able to explain that in one sentence but while we were at the restaurant that simple explanation was not given. We had about 20 people in our party and were all very confused. The menu doesn't really give an explanation, the waiter wasn't stating it in a way we could understand and finally the manager came and broke it down for us lol. The food ended up being delicious and the drinks were nice also. I really liked the hibiscus martini and my mom loved her mocktail (which they mad a good selection of). My suggestion would be to add an explanation for what the levonese journey is on the menu and also detail that the "mixed grill" is a variety of grilled meats. I assumed it was grilled vegetables since there was no detail on meat and the chicken shwarma was derailed separately. With all the confusion it took us a very long time to order, we had several children with us who got antsy with the wait for the food once it finally was ordered. Aside from the confusion the establishment had very nice decor and we enjoyed our time celebrating my mom. Be aware that the desert that comes w the Journey is a baklava that's the size of a quarter and what looked like a tablespoon of custard, incredibly tiny portions lol so be prepared ? but still delicious. The staff were very patient w our confusion and tried their best to explain.”

We split the truffles fries which were good also, typically can't go wrong with a good truffle fry! Service: 3/5 Our waiter was decent, seemed to be preoccupied causing him to not be as attentive, but I'd say he was still nice and direct. The wait for the food was extremely long though, it was about 40 to 45 minutes, causing us to be late to our next destination. Ambiance: 5/5 The views were amazing, especially at a window seat (which they were able to accommodate for us after about a 15 minute wait.) On top of that the playlist was solid with kaytranada in the rotation! Medium Rare 3601 Fairfax Dr, Arlington Steak House • $$

“We weren't planning to eat here. Instead, we had a reservation for brunch in DC. However, Metro was really screwed up. Long story short---track work and a disabled train at Pentagon City meant a slow ride that got slower when the train stopped at McLean and had to sit there for several minutes. We realized that we wouldn't make our reservation so my husband called the restaurant to cancel. So...we had to come up with Plan B. We got off at Virginia Square where I looked to see what was open. Right across the street, Medium Rare was open. We decided to give them a try. It was too late for brunch so, we had a very early dinner. Having never been to Medium Rare, I knew next to nothing about their menu. We were greeted and seated by a very nice employee. He took us to a two top and asked if it was okay, which it was. He gave us menus. It was then we noticed that the only item on the menu was a fixed price dinner. If I recall correctly, the meal was $28 per person. It comes with bread and butter, a simple mixed green salad and the main course which is coulotte steak, fries and "secret sauce". That was fine for us. To drink I had a "Lavender 75" which our server said had gin, lavender syrup and champagne in it. It turned out to be a good drink---flavorful and not too strong. My husband had a glass of Malbec. Our server was friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable about the menu. We asked her how she would recommend ordering the steak. She said "medium" which we decided to do. The bread came first. It was sliced and soft in the middle with a nice crust. Salad was next. It had a vinaigrette dressing and in addition to the mixed greens, a few sliced cherry tomatoes. This salad was splendid in its simplicity and we both enjoyed it. The main course arrived shortly after we finished our salads. The fries were piping hot and flavorful. As for the steak and "secret sauce" (which was basically a gravy) --- the gravy had good flavor that complimented the meat and the fries. The coulotte steak isn't the most tender cut around but it was sliced thinly and easy to eat. After we finished our main course, we were talking about getting dessert. No sooner did we discuss it but another server came to our table and put more meat, "secret sauce" and fries on our plate! We hadn't realized that everybody gets seconds! So...we ate the meat and a few fries as we still wanted dessert. For my dessert, I chose the hot fudge sundae with vanilla ice cream, while my husband chose the key lime pie. I hadn't had a hot fudge sundae in years! It was very attractively presented with a huge amount of whipped cream topped with a cherry plus since it was Easter, a "peeps" bunny was added. Thankfully, the fudge and the ice cream portions were normal ones. Some candied pearls added a bit of crunch. I enjoyed every bit of that sundae. My husband's key lime pie also came with a huge amount of whipped cream that also had some candied pearls in it. He said it was one of the best key lime pies he's had. Also, he had a cappuccino which he said was well prepared. As a side note --- they do a brunch on the weekends that has a larger menu. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and were pleased with the service. We both used the bathroom where, instead of piped in music, there are piped in French lessons. They were amusing as they were teaching how to ask someone out on a date :) Would we go again? We both say "yes".”

Weenie Beenie 2680 Shirlington Rd, Arlington Food Stands • $

“Had been away for a while (I used to to their affiliated restaurant Burger Delite before it closed) but had been craving a good half smoke forever. Ahhh...just like old times!! The smokes are still great and I had my long time comfort food, a fried bologna, egg & cheese on toast and some potato wedges. The place is still a precision clockwork machine and the prices are still affordable even in these times. Because it closes a 6 PM I can only make it there on Saturdays (or the occasional doctor's appointment day) but it is still one of my cherished spots. Long live Weenie Beenie1!!!”

“Loved the brisket! Brisket is very juicy and just melted in my mouth. The brussels sprouts is not bad for a side, good combination with the meat. The pulled pork is also not bad but definitely not as good as their brisket and ribs.”

“Chanell was our waitress today! She did a fantastic job. Very attentive and timed the appetizer and main perfectly. She was patient and informative when we had questions. The quality of the food was good, but for the price we paid I was expecting a little bit more. The seafood fettuccine tasted great, but there was only one shrimp that was cut up. Both the shrimp pieces and scallops were dry. Otherwise a great dish. My fiancée had the lobster bisque and truffle mac and cheese. For the latter, definitely box pasta and was lacking truffle.”

“Copperwood is great. The food is good. They usually have good beer and wines to choose from. Go during happy hour and sit in the bar area. Other than that the food is overpriced as is much of Shirlington, probably why so many restaurants close.”

The Lobby Bar 300 Army Navy Dr, Arlington Bar • $$

“First time back since COVID. Really love it, but I wish they would make sure the food was hot, not warm, when it arrives. Also, make sure the food is covered when it is delivered. The salad should be covered, too. They need a better system when it comes to people waiting for tables. Cookies from the Double Tree should be an option with a scoop of ice cream as the dessert. The desserts on the menu were not fresh. It was still the same as before, but my girls and I had fun.”

Pho 75 1721 Wilson Blvd, Arlington Vietnamese • $

“Nothing much to say except this is the best Pho place you can find around here! I visit this place frequently. Also, bring cash! The broth is top-notch, rich and tasty with the right aroma. Generous portion. Even the small bowl has a lot of noodles and meat. You can a la carte what meat you want, that’s an authentic experience. Or you can order from their pre-selected menu. All amazing, just order the cut you want. Extra for onion with vinegar, but it’s super good.My only complaint is that the pho noodle itself could be better. A bit too chewy for my taste and not fresh. The servers is always quick and precise with your order. No complaint at all.Vegetarian options: Almost no offeringParking: Plenty of parking within the lot. Share with other restaurants.Kid-friendliness: Big party with kids can be accommodated.”

“This place is TERRIFIC!! Small and easy to miss on a corner shopping lot, but not to be missed. The crispy tuna appetizer is out of this world and the specialty rolls I've had are also terrific. I had the pleasure of sitting at the sushi counter today and one of the chefs made these little wontons as a treat-- SO AMAZING. Wonderful beer and sake selection. This is worth coming from DC for!”

“I was lucky enough to get a pre-opening preview of this business tonight. And I was blown away. The place is beautiful, and Megan and Sean are so hospitable and so knowledgeable about wine. I always thought of myself as someone who couldn't tell the difference between acceptable wine and anything better, until Megan poured me a glass of Beaujolais. Amazing.”

“Decided to try this new Panera in Ballston for lunch - staff were friendly and welcoming when I walked in, directing me to the counter for my mobile takeout order. Food was perfect, everything in my order was there and tasted great! Just for awareness, this location does seem to be more catered for to-go orders (not much seating inside)”
