Dos Taquitos 6101 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh Mexican • $$

“Right when you walk inside this place makes an impression! It looks like Arizona dering Día de los Muertos, it feels like a dead man's party. The regular salsa is refreshing and I can never stop dipping in it. The food is so good, like the arroz con pollo, which is just like half a seasoned chicken instead of dry white meat. The enchiladas de puebla are also great. My favorite by far is the carnitas, you can't find anything like it on this side of the country. The pork is braised in beer and is just magical. And yes there is a train, and yes everyone loves it. The wait can be very very long on the weekends, but the staff are always very friendly so I never mind too much. It's not too expensive so I think it's honestly the best restaurant in Raleigh for families! They also help promote small business sometimes, like they used to sell really good chocolate for this Columbine guy. Anyway, this place is good and you must go or ELSE! Last thing, I think the restaurant has changed hands because it has gotten way better in the last couple years.Parking: The parking is actually pretty iffy. It gets packed to the point of no spots, but you can just go park in the shopping center.Kid-friendliness: There is a bar but it's mostly split from the tables. Side note, the tortillas are really good ?”

“In a time where great food and great service is scarce, this place is a jewel. I chose this place to celebrate a family birthday based on a great word of mouth referral and the birthday girl loves Indian cuisine. The place is beautiful and clean inside! The atmosphere is upscale from decor to lighting. You relax when you walk in. Did I mention the cloth pressed napkins!! What? The music plus at a volume that adds to ambience but not annoyingly loud do you can’t hear each other talk. It is not too bright, but not too dark either. The food was prepare with attention to detail and tasted delicious. You can ask for no spice if you are not into Spicy food. The service is excellent. The servers don’t hover or intrude, but are right on time for your needs. As I mentioned, we celebrated a birthday. I brought a large cupcake and a candle and had it on the table before guests arrived. The server asked if he could plate it in the back for later. I was so happy for the offer. Later, he came out with this amazing long plate with happy birthday written on the plate in rainbow gorgeous writing. He even lite it as he approached the table. Then a happy birthday song began to play over their sound system! It was so thoughtful and added that specialness to the evening that is hard to find today in the service industry. Thank you so much!!!”

“All of the staff were spot-on. They had even prepared a custom drink menu for our table reflecting our loyalty to a party university...and being greeted by the manager (Nicholas) at our table (upon arrival) was a pleasant start to our evening. Dakota was our server; he was courteous and engaging; he presented us with/ the special entrees and gave good suggestions. It was a wonderful evening with great service and deliciously prepared food. We were surprised though by two things, 1) bread for the table was an additional charge (even though a portion of the proceeds did go to a charity) and 2) tables did not have tablecloths, which is odd for a very high-end restaurant. Otherwise a wonderful night celebrating a special anniversary. Thanks Oak Steakhouse for helping us celebrate!”

“Came in for brunch. The hostess was welcoming and escorted us to the bar seating when we requested. The restaurant was clean. I love the black leather seating interior throughout. We met our bartender Steven.Steven is great! Very welcoming, engaging, professional, and did a fabulous job making recommendations.I enjoyed the Gumbo grits which did not look appetizing when they arrived but it was delicious. There was sauteed chicken, sausage, and pickled okra as well as an egg that I had on the side (i ultimately added to my gumbo). I love a savory breakfast bowl and this was just that. There was also an order of catfish by the other individual in my party along with eggs, and sausage. For dessert, we tried the Sinner Rolls which were a nice sweet treat. My cocktails were espresso Hendricks martini, French 75, and cranberry mimosa... What a time!Everything was great!Steven's cocktails were top-tier.I must add the restrooms have all the hygienic things for individuals to go out in the world on the go to conquer their day. “This place is interesting. It is kinda tricky to find. The food can be great, or not great. This time I had the swordfish. It was highly overcooked. The broccolini was highly undercooked, to the point that it could not be cut with a fork and a butter knife. The sauce was fairly bland. For seafood, I would not come back. Now.... With that said... The burgers. They looked, and smelled awesome. I wish I had ordered that, instead. This restaurant feels like it was something special a few years ago, and now it seems like they do not think they have to try, and that is a shame. Seafood is offered in a variety of styles and price points, all well-cooked. It's quite popular, so reservations are good. I tend to see a lot of attractive late-middle-age couples as well as family groups there. They make several yummy signature cocktails, my favorite is the landed lemon-drop, but the wine list is a little ho-hum. Short and at the grocery store mid level, Kendall Jackson, that sort of thing. I buy a pound of hummus at a time along with a bag of pita bread as a healthy snack to take home. Their stuffed grape leaves, and chicken and rice are my favorites, too. I overall love this high quality, convenient, healthy dining option.Vegetarian options: The many offered vegetarian selections are clearly marked. The staff as well is always friendly and willing to answer questions, and graciously serve you.Parking: Multiple businesses and other restaurants exist around Sassool so parking somewhat depends on the time of day you choose to dine there. However, the shared lot is large, and I usually don’t have to wait.Kid-friendliness: Very kid-friendly. I frequently see families with even young children dining together. I have never noticed this restaurant to have much background noice (eg., upset children).Wheelchair accessibility: This restaurant is wheelchair accessible as the parking lot exists just outside the front doors. The lot is flat, and the sidewalk running parallel to Sassool has low level ramp access.”

“Figulina has done an excellent job transforming the Humble Pie space into a pasta-making Mecca. You can watch the chefs hard at work making wells in dough and forming the sheets for ravioli and agnolotti. Our service was a bit spotty but the food was wonderful. We tried the Doppio Ravioli, which was delectable with roasted carrots in half and rabbit confit in the other. The Pappardelle Bolognese was also hearty and flavorful. We also tried the Brussels which are served in a cold salad and the beets with whipped ricotta. My dinner companions did not love the soda bread that came with the lamb rillette but the dish itself was tasty. We will definitely be back for more of the fresh Italian pasta with an English twist!”

“One of the better sushi spots around. The nigiri and sushi roll we ordered were on point. The house salad could use some work -- the ginger dressing is thin, store bought, not the big clump of house ground ginger dressing that I was hoping for (might be better if asked for extra dressing; avocado was a nice touch though. Spring leaves over iceberg is fine but would be better chopped a bit, felt like an italian salad). Miso was good as well. Mochi ice cream for dessert -- mango by far the best flavor. Vivo Ristorante 7400 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh Italian • $$
7400 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh

“When I first moved down here from New Jersey, my brother and I found Vivo. We were so grateful because where we are from, we are used to having top notch authentic Italian places close by. When we first came, we were ecstatic about the food. It made us feel like we were back home a filled a huge void that we had in the southern Italian scene. Pizza, pastas, and especially the pasta fagioli soup absolutely incredible never tasted a better version, in fact, as an avid home cook, I tried to dissect what they were doing to make the soup so flavorful and delicious. I came to the conclusion/assumption that they must have been blending some of the ingredients like the beans and veg into the broth, which gave it the perfect viscosity and flavor. I have recommended Vivo to over 100 people as a hidden gem of the area because of this soup alone lol.A little bit back, they started to make some changes. Starting with the menu, which eliminated both my brother and I's go to entrees (chicken cannelloni and linguine w clams/shrimp). Of course restaurants want to stay exciting and make changes which I support, but these changes did not seem to be going in a better direction. (IMO) We made adjustments because prior, everything was delicious. We started trying some new things and a lot of it still great, but the new items didn't quite do it like the old. If they did, I would have no complaints. Lately, the changes have become a little intolerable. Mainly because the quality of food has been falling off a bunch. My brother was always very into the chopped salad, the way it was finely chopped and loaded w great accoutrements, good acid, although now it has become more leafy, less dressed (mostly oil)less chopped, and less topped. The most heartbreaking change has to be the soup tho. It went from what I have called the best soup I have ever had, to what tastes like chicken broth out of the box. It lost all of its thick rich flavor and has been a huge disappointment which has led to our decline in going. I hate to talk like this about Vivo because they are great people who has brought us many great meals, but I want to bring awareness to whoever can control these variables that it is very recognizable to the customers. Whether it is to save time money or effort, it has been the cause of losing some of your most loyal customers and may not be worth it.There are still plenty of things that are incredible about Vivo, and I do plan to come back, but what was once a weekly routine that we looked forward to has fallen off our list of options quickly with the changes that have taken place over the past year. At the very least, bring the old pasta fagioli recipe back. I'm writing this review because we were just talking about where we should eat tonight, which used to not even be a question for our early in the week dinner routine, because we always wanted Vivos. And I'm sad to say that we don't consider it anymore because of the kitchens decline. I am still giving four stars because of all the joy that this place has brought us in the past. Thank you for reading and I hope management/kitchen take this in a way that can help Vivo in the long run.”
