“Where do I start?? I completely enjoyed my experience at Scales from start to finish. They came recommended by two completely different people (a resident and someone who frequents the area) so after the second time hearing the name, it was settled. I had to try it. We had a short wait in the lounge area for the dining room to open and had a drink. The Lavender Haze with the pea flower infused gin was fantastic; Woke my taste buds right up! Our waitress was incredibly helpful and graciously answered all of my 784 questions to help us settle on what to order (everything sounded so amazing, I couldn’t decide). We settled on the grilled octopus for the appetizer and while in Maine, I HAD to get lobster. I have no regrets!! Everything we tried was phenomenal. After seeing other tables order the scallops, I would’ve loved to try them too but had absolutely no room left. I can say this was the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. When in Portland, Maine EAT AT SCALES!!”

“Creative and modern. Small dishes so you can try lots of dishes. And you’ll want to. Every dish finished before delivery by chef. Every plate was awesome. Wish the crust for bread under tuna was thinner. Tough.”

“No frills and some of the best oysters I've ever had. Snow Island was a perfect balance of briny and sweet. Clam chowder is solid it's a little bit more like a bisque but they cooked the potatoes perfectly for a soup.”

“The food looks delicious and that’s why we came here. However, when we arrived around 1:05 pm, the lady at the entrance was very rudy and told us we couldn’t dine in without being in the waiting list. It’s not what she said, it’s the way she said it.-Restaurant reached out to me in the nicest way and apologized for the situation about the host. I will be giving them a try soon as the food looks fantastic. Looking forward to it.”

“We sat at the chef's bar to watch the kitchen action and opted to pick out 4 vegetarian options from the menu. The portions were generous for 2 people. If you are a big eater and like to take home leftovers, you can choose the Chef's tasting menu, because it is difficult to choose from all the menu options. Each dish was so tasty, with layers of robust flavor & texture. The food is very rich and while we couldn't eat like this every day, we thoroughly enjoyed every option we chose. Simple but creative dishes. We also savored an absolutely decadent chocolate dessert, craft beer & an alcohol free cocktail. The music was a great addition to the overall vibe, and the restaurant set up is unique and bar-style downstairs. I'm glad we close to sit on the ground floor and watch the action. There is also an option to sit at a table upstairs in the mezzanine. We plan to return to try other menu options. A unique dining experience. Very nice, attentive staff.”

“Absolutely amazing! Food was super delicious. We had the green goddess salad, the Cubano sandwich, and the poutine. And to top it all off we gad their original milkshake that just puts a smile on your face. We will definitely be back!”

“This is a great up and coming restaurant in Portland. They have a few minor details to work on, but overall a very good experience. The wait staff is clearly working on Michelin style service techniques including uniform plate setting at tables, napkin etiquette, and plate presentation. Our waiter was overall good, but a bit cold and stand-offish. The menu has some great local ingredients, but it seems like they are trying too hard to get the buzz words in the menu. For example I enjoyed the Cauliflower Gratin and the menu description included local uni and lobster. The flavors of the cauliflower and the sauce were strong and really overwhelmed the delicate flavor of local uni to the point that the uni just took a back seat. The dry aged duck was wonderful and the aging process truly brought a unique texture and moistness to the duck. I also sampled the Atlantic cod dish which had a delicious broth, but was served with charred union which just did not match the delicate flavors of the broth. Overall a very good experience and worth a visit. I expect they will only get better with time.”

“Definitely should have looked at the menu before entering. However, felt obligated to stay once we realized how many employees were standing and staring at us as soon as we walked in. No shortage of attention. The bartender was friendly and attentive, but no cocktails struck our fancy. Other than chartreuse.Oysters and cod cheek were tasty.Atmosphere wasn’t as expected for a tavern, but I could see this being an amazing stop.”

“They should rename this place "Cheers of the North". I've never been to such a welcoming and hospitable spot. The Thai pizza is outstanding. The tacos are even better. Beers are all great and you can tell that Jeff, the brewmaster, puts a ton of effort and attention into the beers. The space is super cozy and inviting. Like hanging out at a close friend's house. Every time I'm up here I try to make it my first and last stop. I found out this time they have an AirBnB on site called "The Brewhouse" cannot wait to stay there next time I'm up.”

“My Fiance and I came here for my birthday dinner and we were very impressed. We started off with the Meatballs and the Sourdough bread didnt lack in flavor and got us more excited for our entrees. Our server Rich was very knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We ordered the gnocchi and bolognese both were amazing the flavor combinations meshed and had our taste buds bouncing. We ordered the panna cotta, tiramisu, and another dessert with waffle cones and espresso and all 3 were spectacular!”

Whatever you decide to get, make sure to order that pineapple sauce, it will give you an orgasm in your mouth. If you are not local, stuff as many of those fresh hoagie rolls in as you can.”

“This place is an absolute must go to restaurant in Portland. The atmosphere is very cozy, at least in the space and the lighting, but super hip. They play lots of dancey, fun music, which wasn’t deafening or obnoxious but just added to the great vibe.They have lots of great options, all smaller plates which makes it so much fun to share with whoever you’re with. We got the garlic edamame, bacon mochi, the cabbage pancake (I forget the official name, forgive me), and the udon. Every bite was perfect, and the service was awesome.We sat at the bar, and the bartender was super attentive despite being busy. The cocktail menu is also fantastic! Definitely worth trying at *least* one.”

“Amazing experience. We called to make reservations the day of and they were fully booked but told us we could try as a walk-in so we did. We were very lucky they had three seats available at the bar when we showed up at 7:30pm. The bartender was very friendly and really made sure we had everything we needed. We started with a special for our appetizer, a cod fish mashed potato spread and it was DELICIOUS! My daughter has the seared tuna and she loved it. My husband had the linguini and clams and it was very flavorful. The portions were also pretty generous. My swordfish was also cooked to perfection. We would definitely return. The bar is in a big open lounge area so it was a nice setup. And everyone was very friendly.”

“I love this place! The food is delicious and the family who owns it is very kind. When I asked my server for gluten-free soy sauce, she alerted me to the fact that I had accidentally ordered a dish with wheat in it, remaking it for me immediately. The Pizza bruschetta is amazing and the lamb chops are amazing. We go to Solo a lot. All they need is a fireplace. Fantastic in so many ways!”

“Tandem serves some of the best coffee I've tasted. We were visiting Portland and stopped by the 122 Anderson location. We were greeted by the baristas who were extremely friendly and provided great recommendations for the area. We tried a classic latte, maple latte, and their pour over coffee, which was smooth and bold. Highly recommend a pit stop here, either to enjoy the ambience of the little shop or just grab a coffee to go!”

“Quick update: I highly recommend Miyake as a place to stop in for lunch, too! It's a quieter vibe than dinner, so perfect for grabbing a seat at the sushi bar. There are bento box lunch specials and chef's choice sushi and sashimi, or you can order rolls from the lunch menu; I had a wonderful red snapper ceviche roll and of course, their wonderful miso soup!”

“On our way back home in NY from Houlton, Maine we decided to stop and walk around town down Portland, an across from where we parked we saw Butcher Burger and decided to go in and hands down the best decision we made lol the atmosphere, the music playlist top tier, amazing staff and A1 service!!!My family loved Sierra One of the staff at Butcher, She had all the answers to our questions when it came to certain drinks and recommended a drink from our description that hit the spot to what my sister is used to drinking back home on Long Island….I decided to go with THE SURE & TURF BURGER which came with house patty • hand-picked Maine lobster • lettuce • tomato • bacon • mayo which was delicious to the very last bit!!Followed by The CRISPY LOBSTER ROLL which consisted of crispy Maine lobster • shredded lettuce • bacon jam • spicy mayo • brioche roll and let me tell that bacon Jam was the pièce de résistance to that amazing Lobster Roll!!Boy oh boy let’s talk about these BUTCHER FRIES they used Maine potatoes and talk about crunchy they triple cooked them bad boys and Served them with their amazingly delicious block sauce that we couldn’t get enough of!!!10 out of 10 for me and I will definitely be back again soon!!!!!”

“Green Elephant. Much Elegant! Our sweet sweet boy wanted to go here! And we got into the BEAUTIFUL seaside city of Portland Maine! A friendly town elder welcomed us to the city! We went into Green Elegant and ordered soda. Less ice next time please! The man who I drive with ate some tofu and noodles and had his shirt tucked in because this is a NICE place to eat. Our Sweet boy ate something he liked. Vegan options for those animal lovers who don’t want to kill god’s creatures but also don’t want to eat mud and grass. And for me…Green Curry at the extravagant Green Elephant. The kind waitress said, you want this spicy? I said lemme get a 2 spice. Spice scale goes to 5! 2 is good. I DID NOT want to cause a scene cause Spicey gets me riled up. Can’t embarrass our sweet boy he’s shy! Shyness isn’t bad this world needs all kinds of people. Be understanding and live life with love. So I sipped soda which was blueberries flavor. And not to belabor the point but next time I’ll sip from the bottle…too much ice in the glass. Like the North Sea. Him had gift card! 50 bucks. I loved the curry and caused a small scene!”

“We got the lobster stew, clam chowder and the crab sandwich.Everything was good, lobster stew has a very buttery and creamy taste. Crab sandwich was delicious and would recommend it over lobster roll.They have half sandwich options with sides of chowder so it’s great if you want to try out several items.”

Sean & John were very warm, and personable. We were more than happy to hear about their experience as oyster farmers, and the oysters they produced, which were incredibly delicious. Maine Oyster Co. was not only a great spot for oysters, but a good way to get a taste of what Maine is all about- friendly people, and great seafood.”

“I've been to the Continental twice and had an excellent experience both times. First was lunch and I had delicious French onion soup, salad, and the best pour of Guinness I've ever been served! We returned today for brunch and I had a grilled chicken sandwich and of course another perfect pint of Guinness. I typically don't go for grilled chicken because it's boring, but the buttery grilled bread, tarragon mayo, and pickles really brought the sandwich together. The fries were also cooked perfectly. The best part of the Continental is the amazing service! The owner/bartender really makes it a great experience. The Press Herald review was BS! The Continental rules and I hope it's successful in its first year!”

“After being recommended this spot multiple times, I took date night as the opportunity to try it out. Let me just say, I haven’t stopped thinking about this meal. We started out with the Moo Ping which was okay, and then enjoyed the Blossom Dumplings which was impossible not to devour in one bite. The star of this entire review is the Mee Ka Te which had a spicy curry broth that was unlike any other flavor I have had before. The service was fast and the Thai Tea was perfect. For sure, will be back.”

“Excellent! We had the house salad … like no house salad I’ve ever had! Lots of goodies, super tasty and the large was plenty for two! My hubby had rigatoni carbonara. I had the crab raviolini. We also ordered bread service ($7 was a bit high).Rigatoni carbonara was very tasty but extremely rich. He wished it would have been cut with an acid for balance. My ravolini was perfect in flavor and size.We sat at the bar (not our fave but we didn’t have a reso). Stools were NOT comfortable. Bar/waitress (Lora/Lori I’m pretty sure that’s her name) was friendly and solicitous to us.It was great to be in a neighborhood (and not in the Old Port). We’ve driven by the restaurant and never been inside … glad we did this time. We’ll be back!”

“Boda has always been one of my favorite places to go for a special night out. I say special because the ambiance is really warm... Candles that every table, the food is warm and delicious and presented beautifully. The prices are reasonable and competitive for Portland. The staff is also always friendly. They also have a cute bar room and a late night menu which is slightly different from their regular menu. Don't forget to try the quail eggs for a starter.Vegetarian options: They have curry and noodle dishes that you can get with tofu instead of chicken or fish or beef. They also have appetizers that are vegetarian.Parking: If it's during the day you will most likely have to pay for street parking, but if it's after 5 or 6:00 street parking is free but plan ahead because it takes a little while to find street parking in Portland.”

“Another great brewery in Portland. They don't have flights which I don't love but you can get small pours of all their beers. They have some wine options as well if you aren't into beer. They serve some snacks but typically have a food truck on site. I'm not a huge beer fan but when they have a sour I typically get it. Large inside and outside seating area, which is great for big groups. They also have corn hole. A fun brewery to stop at, with lots of parking out back as well.”

Our server was lovely and happily shared the dishes she enjoyed with us. My friend ordered a lobster roll and I ordered a big bowl of clam chowder, along with a root beer and a bright red mocktail.As much as it was hyped, the food felt a bit under-seasoned, and I struggled to taste much fishiness from my soup or my friend’s roll. The chips and pickle served with the roll were really good, as were the drinks.I would come here again during a warmer month & take advantage of the patio outside. I’d also come mentally prepared for the $75 bill at the end- not unjustified on their part, just a bit on the pricey end.Overall, would recommend!”

“We've had two lovely brunches at 1895 and would definitely go back again. Next time we'll try them for dinner. The room itself is elegant, more so than a typical brunch place but the prices aren't any higher. We didn't do it, but their website indicates they have valet parking and we did see some people using it when we were leaving. When you look at the menu you'll see a number of brunch-type items on the regular menu but they also had additional ones on a special brunch menu. We both had benedicts and liked them.”

“This is a hidden gem in Portland. If you like thin crust pizza this place is the best. It is unique, not like anything else in the city, but that is the point. It is excellent. You may not like the style of crust, but the ingredients are all top notch. The staff all seem personally invested in the success of the restaurant, which is great. The atmosphere is incredibly comfortable and laid back. Also, there is parking - a rare thing in downtown Portland. Try the Dean Martin pizza and the dessert Nutella Pizza. You will not be disappointed. My new favorite restaurant in Portland, now that Emalitsa has closed. We ordered: the fish sandwich which was a bestseller. A delicious melted crab cheese, my daughter a Clam Chowder that was surprising and my wife the Loaded Snappy red hot dog that managed to surprise us. The manager's attention is unbeatable! We cook gourmet meals for ourselves & friends & we want quality options. Our motto is that we don't mind spending a little more money, if the food is better than we would make for ourselves and or something we wouldn't generally take the time to prepare at home. Because, the food is influenced by Japanese & Mexican roots, we had to "ask Siri" to define many of the menu items, but that was fun too. “We had dinner reservations before a show at the Merrill. Traffic suggested we would be late. I called to let them know and the woman on the phone, perhaps a recent immigrant, couldn’t have been kinder or more reassuring! We arrived to find the dining room was being refurbished and the lobby had been transformed into the dining area. An additional distance from the kitchen, the wait staff was HUSTLING! It was wonderful to observe their camaraderie and assisting each other during the pre-show rush. Our server, Hannah, could not have been kinder or more accommodating! The food was wonderful in its presentation and even better in its taste. My husband had the seafood (Cod) special and I enjoyed the scallops! Everything about the experience was perfect!”

The sushi was a little on the small side compared to other sushi places in town but delicious.Regarding the ambiance the restaurant is simple and shares space with another restaurant. “This was a small tasting room compared to most other breweries I’ve visited in the past. However, this is where size really doesn’t matter as it boils down to the potency and flavor of their brews. I have never heard of them previously (also did not even know they were the first NE craft brewery) but noticed patrons walking in and out from the other side of the street. I asked a local friend that I was with and he simply told me to go get a flight in, which I did not hesitate in the least to do.Definitely was worth checking out when in the area. There were a bunch of locals hanging out in there with various brews in their hands. They were obviously proud of the place and welcomed me in as I ordered two flights to taste most of what they had to offer. $20 to taste 8 brews with lovely locals to chat with? Absolutely worth it.Good stuff. Definitely stop by if you’re traveling through.”

We ordered QUITE a lot for two people but it was all eaten. The soup dumplings had great flavor, great broth, and strong dumpling skin. However, I’m under the impression they weren’t handmade (no hole on top). Not a huge deal, but it was still super good. The honey walnut shrimp was CHUNKY! They were ginormous pieces—perfect for 2. The orange beef was so crispy, perfectly sauced and tender. But the superstar of the night was THE GREEN BEANS. You can taste the breath of the wok on the beans. They’re perfectly seasoned, charred, and had perfect crunchy bits of garlic.Can’t wait to come back during the summer months!”
